reel_merlin is a film challenge community in Merlin fandom. It welcomes fanfic and fanart entries of all pairings or ratings but excludes Merlin RPF and crossovers. Stories must be at least 1,000 words in length and betaed. As of March 2010, two rounds have been completed and a third is underway.

Movies that have been chosen as prompt for an entry submitted in a previous round cannot be used again in the same medium (art or fic). Two people also cannot pick the same movie in the same round unless they will use different mediums. One can "stick as closely or as loosely to the plot of the film as you like. The films are meant as prompts, and you can interpret them however you want to." Rules and guidelines can be found on the community Profile page and in a FAQ post.

Round 1

Round 1 sign-ups opened November 20, 2008 and closed on December 18, 2008 with 82 sign-ups. A total of 21 works for as many movies were posted by 17 participants. Most entries were Arthur/Merlin.
