The Mr & Mrs Smith AU is a trope that originated with the 2005 film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, where an upper middle class married couple realise that they are both assassins working for competing companies. Works employing this trope are most commonly fanfiction or fake trailers.

In many cases, vids or fake trailers are fusions, often using clips of side characters from the original movies. Early vids often used the audio of the Mr & Mrs Smith trailer in its entirety. Later vids use elements of the original trailer's voiceover with clips from the original fandom of the characters which are the focus of the vid. Some vids use multifandom clips from the actors previous works in film and TV.

This trope is most common in fandoms where the characters are superheroes or spies with, in theory, canonical secret identities.
