From Boldly Writing:

Ruth Berman put out the last of her Star Trek fanzines, Minara Nova, in March [1982]. This ran 30 pages in reduced format. All contributions related to the episode 'The Empath' by Joyce Muskat. Entries included notes on the episode, comments about the episode from the actors involved in its production, and reprints of fanzine stories based on the episode.

Reactions and Reviews

See reactions and reviews for The Tinman.

Upon hearing the price charged for KIRK, the tendency Is to gnash one's teeth and wail, "What the world really needs is a good two-dollar fanzine!" Well, believe it or don't, there is one -- Minara Nova. Ruth Berman, editor of the famous T-Negative, has produced this zine in the T-N format. It's just 30 pages long, and the reproduction is poor, yet Minara Nova is special. To my knowledge, this is the only fanzine devoted to one episode, namely, "The Empath". Included are reviews, script outline, analysis of plot evolution; comments on the episode by cast and crew; biographies and credits of composer George Duning, actress Kathryn Hays, and writer Joyce Muskat; two poems and a story which Muskat wrote under pseudonyms for other zines; "The Tinman" by Paula Block, a scene between Kirk and McCoy in Sickbay immediately after Minara; "While We Still Feel", by Johanna Cantor, in which the Vians turn out to be the Preservers; and a word-picture in which Connie Faddis describes Jem's sensations of empathy. Illustration is minimal, but there's a dozen xeroxed slides and a full-page photo of McCoy on the back. I think you'll find Minara Nova an enjoyable one-sitting reading experience. It's only two bucks; what have you got to lose? Write to Ruth Berman... [1]
