Fiona Graves is a fanartist, and occasional vidder.
Graves contributed many pieces of artwork to Star Trek: The Original Series fanzines in the late 1980's through the mid-1990's. She is notable for her exceedingly detailed art, usually in black-and-white.
Graves won a Philon Award in 2001 for the cover of First Time #52

[art on page 70 and 71 of First Time #37]: I firmly believe that old adage "the eyes are the windows to the soul." Here in this portrait of Kirk, the eyes pull you in and hold your attention, then pull you in even deeper. The overall effect is one of a candidly pensive moment; Kirk in thought or even daydreaming a little. Very mellow, very gentle.[1]

The third one is good. 84 A is a wonderful Kirk, probably ST:TMP era, and his face is enclosed in a circle. This is pen and ink, and Kirk's face is marvelous, very realistic. Kirk is looking to the left and has a thoughtful/serious expression on his face. The face is about 6 inches long." [2]

Some artists may blow hot and cold as far as getting the characters' features down pat, but Ms. Myers [reviewer attributes this art to the wrong artist] (and I've been admiring her art for years) has always been consistent in the high quality of her work. I don't think I have ever seen one of her illos that has disappointed me. The firmness of the lips, the set determination of the eyes present a powerful rendition of this subject. The way the light glistens off the hair, one senses that if they reached out and touched it, one could feel its softness." -- [3]

front cover of T'hy'la #14: "[The front and back covers] are lovely, accurate double portraits of Kirk and Spock with a circular design element in the background of each, which not only ties the figures together, but shows that the front and back covers are related, even though one is horizontal and the other is vertical. In each, one of the guys is giving the other a speculative glance. Fiona does an excellent job of relating the figure in the background to the one in the foreground -- not as easy a task as it may seem. Each figure is projecting a different attitude and mood, which adds to the special quality of these drawings. Fiona is a very talented artist, rendering her work in realistic detail. Her use of light and shadow in the faces and figures is expertly done. The folds in the clothing are given as much attention as the shadows on the faces or the highlights in the hair. One must be careful that this attention to detail does not work against the intent of the artist and weaken what she is trying to show. In particular, the wrinkles in Kirk's shirt and collar on the back almost compete for attention with his beautifully drawn face. I say "almost" because it is not as distracting in this illustration as it might be in less talented hands. Since we, as artists, are not cameras, we are not forced to show every detail as it appears in life or in the photos most of us use as reference material. We are free to make choices about what to emphasize and what to merely suggest. In all, these are wonderful covers and I look forward to seeing Fiona's future work." [4]

from First Time #15 -- From one fan: "Grave's Spock on 84B eclipses the Kirks on A and C. Since I'm a Kirk/Shatner addict, you know the Spock has to be magnificent. It's one of those pictures that has just stopped me and made me stare. The two Kirks are good, but don't have the impact the Spocks made on me." [5]. Another fan wrote: "Spock on 84 B is fantastic. This is a big head, about 8 inches long, and the detail is astonishing in this work which may be a pen and ink or may be a charcoal. Spock needs a shave, and you can see the individual hairs in the stubble. He has a serious look. This picture is a definite must for all Spock fans. This Spock is a picture I immediately remembered when I opened the zine up." [6]

This is Kirk in a uniform I'm not quite familiar with, and the picture goes to about mid chest. This is another pen and ink or charcoal with lots of detail. "The front cover to FIRST TIME 52 is by Fiona Graves and is a rather lovely B&W stipple picture (if that's the correct word). Fiona Graves is a favorite artist of mine. I wish she did more pictures. It's a picture of Spock's bare behind. Basically you see the bottom of his shirt and his buns with his hands clasped together. It's a really nice picture with a lot of depth to it. It must have taken hours and hours for Graves to have done the dotting for the blue of the shirt. It makes me wince just to think of it. Of course, this doesn't HAVE to be Spock, but WHO else would be on the cover of a K/S zine in a science blue shirt?" [10]
