Volo is a character from Pokémon Legends: Arceus, released in 2022. He is initially presented to the player, (either as Akari or Rei,) as only a merchant of the Ginkgo Guild. Later, it's revealed he's very knowledgeable about Hisui's history and is one of the strongest trainers in the region.

Volo is considered a fan favorite and is the focus in many fanworks, more-so than any other PLA characters aside from Ingo and Akari.

He is heavily implied to be Cynthia's ancestor, but this is technically fanon.

Popular Tropes & Fanon

Spoiler Warning: This article or section may contain spoilers. If this bothers you, proceed with caution.

  • Immortal Volo: Since he swears to discover all of Hisui's mythological secrets and conquer Arceus, no matter how many years, decades, or centuries it takes him, after he's defeated, some fans headcanon that he became immortal after the battle due to his sheer will or that immortal Volo would be interesting to explore in fanworks. Some have him live until the modern day, meeting Emmet in Unova on his travels and/or being immortal alongside Akari. Some works have him exist in other time periods.
    • A related headcanon is that Cogita is also immortal and wrote the old verses.
  • Giratina Volo: Some headcanon that he's the human form of Giratina. Related is the headcanon that he's a physical form of Arceus.
  • Race-coding: Volo, along with the rest of the Diamond and Pearl clans, as well as Cogita, is often considered to be Ainu-coded (Indigenous) as well as Greek-coded, since the Celestica culture itself is inspired by ancient Greek culture
  • Neurodivergent-coding: Volo's sudden turn on Akari has been interpreted by some fans as a bout of psychosis.
