tinsnip is a fan writer who has written several popular fics in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Good Omens fandoms. Their fics have focused around the slash pairings of Garak/Bashir and Aziraphale/Crowley respectively. Within the Star Trek: DS9 fandom, tinsnip is particularly notable for their headcanons and meta around Cardassian xenobiology.

tinsnip may also be recognized by a popular post on tumblr describing the difference between explicit and mature ratings on AO3 using the metaphor of an envelope.[1] The envelope post has been linked as a reference numerous times on Fail-Fandomanon. [2][3][4]

Selected Fanworks

Good Omens

tell me all the ways [1] Date: June 4, 2019Length: 1668 wordsStatus: One ShotGenre: Fluff, Post-Canon
"Crowley was out in the garden. Aziraphale was in his study, most definitely not looking out the window. Really. Really. One little speck of sentiment: was it so much to ask?"
In Nomine [2] Date: July 7, 2019Length: 1170 wordsStatus: One Shot
"Aziraphale makes dinner reservations for himself and Crowley, and is a bit thoughtless. Silly business."
my saloon will do quite nicely [3] Date: July 10, 2019Length: 1448 wordsStatus: One Shot
"In which Crowley talks to his car, the Bentley is passive-aggressive, and Aziraphale likes Canadian baking."

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Learning to Speak [4] Date: Feb 6, 2013–Feb 17, 2013Length: 20,163 wordsStatus: CompleteGenre: Established Relationship, Post-Canon, Post-Canon Cardassia
" Julian Bashir has been on Cardassia for six months. He thinks he's adapted pretty well. But when it's time to learn the language, he realizes he's nowhere near as clever as he thought. Set post-canon, about a year and a half after the series ends. Light stuff, with occasional dips into darker territory.
On-station Garak/Bashir [5] Date: Jan 26, 2013–March 24, 2013Status: Series is a WIPGenre: Courting
A series of two works. Currently, the second work is the most kudosed of tinsnip's works. "How dare Garak go off-station and miss lunch with Julian? Really, he's quite put out about it. Unusually so... Wait, what is this? Highlights: puppy Julian, enigmatic Garak, friendly banter, oxytocin rushes. Sweet as jumja."
Ticks [6] Date: Jul 1, 2013Length: 16,069 wordsStatus: CompleteGenre: Established Relationship, Porn Without Plot
tinsnip explores speculative Cardassian anatomy in this fic. "Cardassian cultural studies are much more fun when accompanied by the occasional field trip. And field trips are much more fun when learning is interspersed with time to play... Elim Garak and Julian Bashir get frisky in a holosuite. Very light, very chatty (Garak POV, and he does love to talk!). Approached from a Cardassian viewpoint. Translations incorporated as hovertext. Have fun!"
Caught [7] Date: Jan 18, 2014Length: 770 wordsStatus: One ShotGenre: Porn Without Plot
"Who is the predator, and who is the prey?"
Speculative Cardassian Reproductive Xenobiology [8] archive Date: May 5, 2014Length: 2268 wordsGenre: Nonfiction, Meta
"For reference purposes: my thoughts on Cardassian reproductive xenobiology. All of this is purely my own headcanon. It gets updated as I think more about things. If you'd like to use these ideas in your own work, feel free! Please credit me. I'd also love a link~!" One fic, Enforced Relaxation by OccasionalStorytelling, is inspired by this meta.
The Smallest Things [9] Date: Feb 7, 2015–Apr 28, 2020Length: 30,564 wordsStatus: WIP,Genre: M/M, Romance, Friends to Lovers
"Garak writes to Bashir. Bashir writes to Garak. The letters, and the spaces in between."

Influence

tinsnip is arguably a BNF in the newer wave of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fandom. One fan describes tinsnip liking their artwork as winning "[the] garashir celebrity lottery."[5]
