Gen Fandom

This page has a subheading for "Gen fandom" that then proceeds to talk about what looks an awful lot like het. I recognize that that's how it was often talked about in older fandoms, but I think this ought to be made explicit if that is in fact what's going on.

Also, someone should talk about the fact that the actors got to roll around making O-faces for the quickenings. 'cuz c'mon.--Betty 06:14, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

It's been a while since I read any Highlander, but the Duncan/Tess stories for example often wouldn't be explicit or only couple centric, but be about the two taking in Richie, or Tess as a damsel in distress, action stuff... I actually don't think that calling fanfic that has just the level of canonical relationship content as canon, gen instead of het is obsolete usage of the genre label.--Ratcreature 09:43, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Which is a part of the whole 'any slash content is slash, but canon levels of het is okay in gen' controversy. Perhaps link it in some way? --rache 14:46, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
I threw that in there because I originally started in HL fandom, where the definition of "gen" was originally inclusive of het and used interchangeably by some. - --Raine Wynd 06:57, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Is this still a stub? Or is there enough there?--Raine Wynd 04:47, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I think there's definitely enough now, good call! --Arduinna 01:17, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Film vs. TV fandom

This page is labeled as 'Highlander', but is almost exclusively about 'Highlander: The Series'. It should either have a section about the movies or the title should be changed and a new page about the movies added, with disambiguation landing page as well. --Highlander.ii 23:28, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

I agree, the page currently only mentions one movie in one paragraph. How separate are the series/movie fandoms?--Tiyire 16:34, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
The series was one of the big fandoms of its day, the movies probably qualify for Yuletide. Currently in AO3 it's 2000 to 50. The series treats the first movie as canon (the parts that aren't in conflict with the series) but the other movies get ignored and don't exist as far as fandom is concerned (also, they don't really fit in the same universe). --Doro 16:55, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
That sounds like a (small) separate section about the movies on this page would fit best. --Tiyire 17:05, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
The fandom gets a little convoluted w/ movies 4 & 5 (though 5 isn't necessarily seen as a 'real' movie, as it was a SciFi channel release). But, fans of the movies might be interested in a page about the movies and how they related to the series. -Highlander.ii 06:55, 14 March 2012 (UTC)
I added it to the wish list.--Tiyire 15:11, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

Restructuring

I restructured so that there's a blurb about what Highlander is in a general sense and then sections with an overview of the media that makes up canon. Given the franchise's careful attention to consistent worldbuilding and internal continuity, I thought that might be helpful. ;D Franzeska (talk) 21:37, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

You know, after futzing around with this, I think it's clear that a lot of the fandom stuff needs to go to the Highlander: The Series page, which should not be a redirect. Franzeska (talk) 21:57, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

New restructuring

I tried to give a new view to the page, I changed places some sections, created others, merged the ones that had similar content and changed the name of some. But it seems that this page focuses a lot on the television series and leaves movies and animation almost aside. There is also no information about the other media mentioned, such as comics. Both in the canon part and in the part about fandom.

Wouldn't it be better to have a page dedicated exclusively to the canon and another to the fandom? That way it would be easier to understand? Or am I going crazy and thinking beyond the limits of the site? Ellakbhesse (talk) 09:05, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

I think it focuses mostly on the TV series because that fandom was pretty huge back in the day. I can't speak for the film or animation fandoms, we could make separate pages for them, but I don't think it would be too bad to make subsections on this article, it all depends on if you think there is enough a fandom presence to warrant separate pages -- Kingstoken (talk) 10:03, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

I know Highlander from some movies and some pieces of the series that were shown in Brazil. Here the beheading of immortals has become a popular joke in some places. Called a "Highlander cut" when someone gives a response or action so quick and unexpected that it leaves the other unresponsive, almost a meme of its own. But my knowledge stops there about the work. Maybe adding subs is the most correct since I don't know if there are enough conditions for one page. Ellakbhesse (talk) 10:24, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

tropes vs. fanfiction section

What is the tropes section supposed to be about? It looks like a list of plot elements in the canon itself rather than plot elements in fanfiction. The fanfiction section looks like it's describing tropes.--aethel (talk) 23:40, 22 April 2022 (UTC)

The way it is structured is slightly confusing, I would say yes most of the tropes list do seem to be canon tropes, however some can also be explored in fic, for example "First Deaths", I am sure there are many fics about an immortal character's first death and how they come to terms with it. That being said, it does look like it could be reworked, and maybe the tropes and fanfic sections combined -- Kingstoken (talk) 01:27, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
