sga_talk is a LiveJournal community that was formed in 2007 to discuss Stargate Atlantis slash, femslash, het, and gen fanfiction. It was active until 2009.
From the profile post[1]:
"This community is devoted to the discussion of Stargate Atlantis (SGA) fanfiction. We will be reading m/m and f/f slash fiction, het fiction, and gen fiction and will ensure that each of these genres is adequately represented within the community. sga_talk is modeled after the traditional book club; we will all read the same piece of fanfiction and then come together afterwards to discuss the work. This community is for everyone. We believe that each reader has something interesting and important to say, regardless of his or her relationship to academia, so do not hesitate to participate if you’re not up on the latest academic theory or lingo."
From the welcome post[2]:
"Who selects the fanfic we’ll read? You do. That’s right. You guys are in charge of deciding what we as a group read. You will respond to this post with fics for the reading queue; I will make a master post that compiles everyone’s submissions so that we can all see what’s been read and what’s next in line for discussion. Periodically, we will make ADMIN posts calling for more submissions as our “to read” list dwindles.
A few guidelines for submitting fic for discussion:
1. This community is interested in all SGA fanfic—that means m/m slash, f/f slash, het, and gen. Moderators will ensure that discussion is not dominated by one category of fic.
2. You must ask author permission to discuss his or her fic in this community before submitting the fic. I completely understand the argument that we should not have to ask permission to discuss fannish work in the same way that we don’t have to ask permission to discuss published work, but for me (lunabee34), the most important aspect of my fannish experience has been the community and the friendships I’ve found. Some authors really don’t want their work to be discussed in this kind of setting, and this community respects that.
[...]
Authors can be as little or as much involved in the discussion of their pieces as they’d like. I know some people believe that author involvement can stifle a discussion, but I feel it often adds a very interesting layer to the conversation.
Civility is important. Disagreeing with an author’s choices or criticizing an aspect of his or her writing does not necessitate bad behavior. Flaming and unnecessary hostility will not be tolerated in this community. That being said, remember that choosing to allow us to discuss your work means opening your fic up to criticism and critique, which requires a certain thickskinned-ness. Bad behavior from authors will likewise not be tolerated.
We hope that this community can serve a variety of functions. Foremost it is a place for us to discuss fanfiction and the craft of writing. It is also a rec list; because its membership provides the reading, we have a variety of different interests and tastes converging. Hopefully we each will find good fic that would never have registered on our radars otherwise. Finally, this is a place to celebrate fanfic, to have fun, and to meet other people who share a common fannish interest."
The comm had a Reading (and Suggestion) Masterlist [3], and zillah975 created a master post of fics that were discussed in the community.[4]
