kyuuketsukirui first became involved with online fandom in 1999 under the name Megchan (which he had already been using for several years for his j-pop lyrics site). He took the name kyuuketsukirui in 2002[1] after becoming involved with Vampire Chronicles fandom.

His first fandom was Digimon, where his creative activity was limited to fanart (archived on Wayback Machine) and doujinshi. Although his fandom activity since then has been more fic-focused, he has also done some art in Vampire Chronicles, Harry Potter, and Stargate: Atlantis. His Vampire Chronicles art is no longer archived anywhere, though his other fanart can be found on his journal.

He wrote his first fic in 2002, and was monofannish in Vampire Chronicles fandom until Telesilla founded The Establishment, an RPS RPG in April 2003. There, kyuuketsukirui wrote Ewan McGregor to Diamona's Jude Law. The two wrote together for five years, making Jude and Ewan the longest-surviving of the original pairings in the game. Kyuuketsukirui has also written dozens of Jude/Ewan fics on his own, making him by far the most prolific author in the tiny fandom.

He has also written fic in over twenty other fandoms, including Harry Potter, LotRiPS, and Stargate: Atlantis. Most of his fic can be found on his website and his journal.

Although he wrote his first transfic in 2005,[2] it was not until 2007 that he began to focus on transgender themes in his stories, spurred on in part by several fics that treated transfolk as a joke, and also in reaction to the general lack of trans awareness in fandom and the oft-repeated assertion that everyone in fandom is female.

He began posting reviews to his LiveJournal in November 2005 as a way of motivating hirself to read the many fic recced to his,[3] however, he enjoyed writing the reviews so much he decided to continue to review all the fics he read.[4]

Despite the worry many fans have that there will be wank if they write anything other than glowing praise in their recs, kyuuketsukirui's reviews have mostly flown under the wank radar, although he did come under criticism from some Stargate: Atlantis fans for writing reviews of fest fics.[5]

His reviews are currently archived both on his journal and (in abbreviated form, due to length restrictions) on delicious.

A professional translator, he has provided fan translations for hundreds of doujinshi, as well as some manga, such as Shin Yoroiden Samurai Troopers and Digimon Adventure V-Tamer 01. In 2008, he began releasing his own scanlations in addition to translating for others.

He created Megchan's Digimon Sekai in late 1999, not long after the show began airing in the US. Although he was also the official translator of the show,[6] the site was entirely a fannish endeavour.

Though the site closed in February 2002[7][8] he made his Digimon encyclopedia available for anyone to host and copies of it still exist on numerous Digimon sites under the name Megchan's Digimon Encyclopedia,[9] both as it was when he abandoned it, and with further updates.

Other Fannish Activity

In 2000, he wrote two articles for Pojo's Card Collector World's special Digimon edition, one an episode guide for season one and the other a review of the two movies that had been released in Japan at that time.

He has also been the archivist for the Phantom Menace Master/Apprentice Fanfiction Archive since October 2004.

In addition, he has been maintaining the Multi-Fandom Transfic Master List, since 2007. It was formerly on Delicious[1], but is now on Pinboard [2].
