Ewan McGregor is a Scottish actor who has appeared in a wide range of films but is likely best known for appearing in the Star Wars prequel films as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

He appears as a character in RPF fanfic, often paired with Liam Neeson in TPM RPS. kyuuketsukirui wrote Ewan in The Establishment, an RPF RPG and has written many stories pairing him with Jude Law outside of The Establishment.

Queer-Friendly Roles and Attitudes
McGregor is definitely a queer-friendly actor, which helps explain his popularity among fans, having appeared in a number of gay roles, including in the films I Love You, Phillip Morris (2009), Scenes of a Sexual Nature (2006), and Velvet Goldmine (1998). He also played the straight son of a gay father in Beginners (2010).
He was quoted as saying, post Velvet Goldmine:
I got fond of wearing nail polish and eye makeup. I used to wear it quite a lot. We all wear makeup when we go to events – men and women alike. I’ve also had some good makeup artists, and I like to let them have a good time. I don’t think we should pretend we’re not wearing makeup when we are. I quite like the look of it.[1]
And post I Love You, Phillip Morris:
I’m very keen that it’s a gay movie. There was quite a lot of talk at Sundance (in 2009) that “Well, it’s not a gay movie. It’s a film about guys who happen to be gay.” And I was thinking, it’s nothing but a gay movie. It’s about a gay couple, about a man’s sexuality, and he comes out. It’s not the point of the film, but let’s not pretend it’s not a gay film.’ … ‘I like kissing boys on screen. As a straight guy, it’s quite an interesting proposition. Anything on a film set that takes you by surprise like that, that gets your blood up, is good.’ … ‘I’m always interested in playing different people, in different situations. It doesn’t matter to me whether someone is in love with a man or a woman. I find the idea of love and romance interesting. I’m a sucker for it. I like playing someone who’s falling in love because I like the sensation of it. People do extraordinary things when they’re falling in love.[2]
This sort of willing flexibility makes McGregor a useful avatar for when a queer original character is needed to round out the cast in fanworks. For example, fan author Julien "cast" McGregor as a gay incubus in her Buffy fic, "Another Day, Another Phase", and as Archie Kennedy's libidinous older brother in her Hornblower fics, beginning with "Choices". Julien also wrote fic for McGregor's characters in Moulin Rouge!, Velvet Goldmine and even Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Which makes Ewan McGregor her Little Black Dress.
