Master and the Wolf: The Snape/Lupin Fuh-Q-Fest was a Harry Potter Fuh-Q-Fest for the Snape/Lupin pairing. It ran for seven waves from 2003 to 2007.

It was created by Michael Chance. The fest archive was originally hosted on the same site as Chance's Slash Archive and had its own forum and mailing list. In 2005, a Livejournal community was created to announce updates to the archive.

lore maintains the fest's new archive at masterandthewolf.com. The version of the archive on Chance's site also remains online as of 2024.

History

McKay summarized the history of the fest for Snupin Central in February 2007:

During the fall of 2003, Michael Chance began the Master and the Wolf FQF. It appears Michael was collecting challenge suggestions for the first wave of the Fest by September 6 [according to a message in hpslash] with plans to begin in October and run through the end of November, although it was obviously extended later. The first stories were posted to the archive on October 22: "With My Last Breath" and "Saving Grace", both by Black Onyx Angel. The first wave ended in February, 2004. There have been seven waves to date, in addition to short mini-challenges issued in-between.

In March 2007, Chance posted that he was looking for someone to take over the fest and announced in the masterandwolf community that lore would take over running it.

In April 2007, lore announced on lupin_snape that the archive had moved to masterandthewolf.com and arionrhod had taken over managing the fest. She noted:

Everyone should take a moment to thank michaelchance for running it as long as he did. The FQFest was a first-step for many into the world of Lupin/Snape, and he did a wonderful job keeping the fest going for so many years.

The fest archive states that it is run by lore.

First Wave

The first wave officially ran from November 1, 2003, to January 31, 2004, although the earliest stories on the archive are dated October 22, 2003. One writer received an extension, and the last story for the wave was posted on February 12, 2004.

There were 155 challenge prompts for participants to choose from. Prompts were claimed through the mailing list.

39 stories by 31 authors were written for the wave. Black Onyx Angel wrote 5 stories. The Treacle Tart, Juxian Tang, MusIgneus, and Draconn Malfoy each wrote two stories.

Second Wave

The second wave officially ran from May 1 to July 31, 2004, although the first five stories were posted on April 30, 2004. Several authors received two-week extensions, and the last full-length story for the wave was posted on September 1, 2004.

New challenges for the second wave started to be collected at the end of February 2004. There were at least 198 challenges by the end of the wave. Claims were accepted until mid-July.

The first 30-minute challenge ran from August 16 to October 17, 2004. Stories are dated August 16 to October 19, 2004.
