The International Fanworks Day Fanlore Challenge is Fanlore's International Fanworks Day celebration. It is held on the week (Monday to Sunday) of International Fanworks Day.

Each day of the week, there is a challenge suitable for editors at any level, plus a bonus challenge for more experienced editors (or adventurous beginners!). Editors can complete either or both of the day's tasks to earn a badge.[1]

The challenge was first held in 2018.[2]

2024

The IFD 2024 Fanlore Challenge will be held from 12-18 February. The gem-themed banner was designed by Amyl, and the badges were designed by hheyhalley.

Daily Editing Challenges

  • Day 1- Challenge: Create a Fanlore account! When you've created your account, check out the user profile template for your user page. Bonus: Add to your user page.
  • Day 2- Challenge: Add to a page related to any pan-Asian fandom. This could be C-media, J-drama, K-drama, Thai drama, or J-pop or K-pop, or something else. Bonus: Create any page related to any Asian fandom. A preview of the pan-Asian fandom themed month in May!
  • Day 3- Valentine's Day Challenge: Add to any ship page. Bonus: Add to or create a femslash ship page.
  • Day 4- Int'l Fanworks Day Challenge: Add anything to a fan convention page. Bonus: Add an internal link to a convention page.
  • Day 5- Challenge: Add to any video game-related page. Bonus: Create any page related to a video game. A preview of the video-game themed month in October!
  • Day 6- Challenge: Expand a short page. Bonus: Make a page from a red link.
  • Day 7- Challenge: Make at least 10 individual edits this week. Bonus: Make 20 edits!

2023

The IFD 2023 Fanlore Challenge will be held from 13-19 February. The flower-themed banner was designed by Airy, and the badges were designed by hheyhalley.

  • Day 1- Challenge: Create a Fanlore account. Bonus: Add to your user page.
  • Day 2- Challenge: Add to any ship page. Bonus: Add to a femslash ship page.
  • Day 3- Challenge: Add to a page for a fan community. Bonus: Create a page for a fan community.
  • Day 4- Challenge: Add to any podcast-related page. Bonus: Create a podcast-related page.
  • Day 5- Challenge: Add to a comics-related page. Bonus: Add to the page for a comics-related character.
  • Day 6- Challenge: Expand a short page. Bonus: Make a page from a red link.
  • Day 7- Challenge: Add to any crossover page. Bonus: Add to any crossover fanwork or crossover zine page.

Daily Editing Challenges

  • Day 1- Challenge: Create a Fanlore account! Bonus: Add some information to your user page!
  • Day 2- Challenge: In honour of International Fanworks Day, add a fanwork example to any page! This could be a fanfic, meta essay, gifset, fanvid, meme - the sky's the limit. Bonus: Create a new page for a fandom that doesn't have one - no matter how small!
  • Day 3- Challenge: Add an internal link to any Fanlore page. Bonus: Add an image to a page that has no imagery. (This can be anything from a screencap showing the appearance of a fansite to an example piece of fanart). Visit our Images Help page for pointers on how to add images to Fanlore.
  • Day 4- Challenge: Add to any fanwork page. Bonus: Add to any vidding-related page.
  • Day 5- Challenge: Add something to any video game-related page. Bonus: Create a brand new page related to a video game fandom.
  • Day 6- Challenge: Add three lines to any stub. The three lines do not need to be in the same section. Bonus: Create and fill out a new section on any stub page.
  • Day 7- Challenge: Add some fandom information to any comic, manga, or webcomic page. (This can be anything that relates to fan activity - including discussions and headcanons - or fanworks). Bonus: Create a new page related to comics, manga, or webcomics.

2021

The IFD 2021 Fanlore Challenge was held from 15–21 February.[3] The beautiful badges were designed by CarnwenannB312 and memorizingthedigitsofpibased on a cool 80s theme, with a wonderful banner by Jercy Dee.

Daily Editing Ehallenges

  • Day 1—Create a Fanlore account. Bonus: Add some information to your user page.
  • Day 2—Challenge: Add an internal link to any Fanlore page. Bonus: De-orphan any Fanlore page by adding a link to it from another page.
  • Day 3—Challenge: Add to any Glossary page. Bonus: Add to the History section of any Glossary page (you can also add a new History section to qualify for this task!)
  • Day 4—Challenge: Add a fanwork example to any character page. Bonus: Create a new character page.
  • Day 5—Challenge: Add something to any fanzine-related page. Bonus: Create a brand new page for a fanzine.
  • Day 6—Challenge: Add three lines to any stub. The three lines do not need to be in the same section. Bonus: Create and fill out a new section on any stub page.
  • Day 7—Challenge: Create a page for any fanwork that doesn't yet have a page on Fanlore. Bonus: Create a new page for your favourite small fandom!

The IFD 2020 Fanlore Challenge was held from 11–16 February.[4] The badges were designed by Carnwennan B312 and Jercy Dee on a Roaring Twenties art deco theme, with a banner by memorizingthedigitsofpi.

Daily Editing Challenges

  • Day 1—Create a Fanlore account. Bonus: Add some information to your user page.
  • Day 2—Challenge: Add some fanwork examples to a fandom page. Bonus: Add some meta links to a fandom page.
  • Day 3—Challenge: Add fan reactions or responses (e.g. comments or reviews) to any fanwork page. Bonus: Create a brand new fanwork page. You can always ask a friendly Gardener for help creating a new page if you're unsure.
  • Day 4—Challenge: Add an example to any fannish meme page. Bonus: Add examples to three different meme pages.
  • Day 5—Challenge: In honour of Valentine's Day, add some fandom information to any relationship page - this can include platonic or family relationships! Bonus: Add some fandom info to any polyamorous/moresome ship page.
  • Day 6—Challenge: For International Fanworks Day, add to the page for a fan community that's meaningful to you. Bonus: Create a new page for a fan community that you were a part of.
  • Day 7—Challenge: Edit any page that's part of a FanloreProject. If you're unsure about what counts, feel free to ask on that project's Talk page! Bonus: Join any FanloreProject (by adding your name to the Project's member list section) and edit multiple pages. The IFD 2019 Fanlore Challenge was held from 11–17 February.[5] The badges were again designed by Amyl, with a new banner design by Linfin.

Daily Editing Challenges

  • Day 1—Create a Fanlore account, or write a bit about yourself on your user page.
  • Day 2—Trope or Genre pages: Add some fanwork examples, or add more detail to the page about your favourite trope or genre.
  • Day 3—Character pages: Add some fanon details, or create a brand new character page.
  • Day 4—Ships: In honour of Valentine's Day, add some example ships to any fandom page, or add some fannish links to any ship page.
  • Day 5—Fan communities: For International Fanworks Day, add to the page for a fan community that is meaningful to you, or create a new page for a fan community that you are, or were, a part of.
  • Day 6—Stubs: Add to a stub, or add a whole new section to a stub.
  • Day 7—FanloreProjects: Edit any page that is part of a FanloreProject, or add yourself to any FanloreProject member list and edit multiple pages.

Daily Editing Challenges

  • Day 1—Create a Fanlore account, or write a bit about yourself on your user page.
  • Day 2—Fandom pages: add some example ships, or add some meta or links to fan communities.
  • Day 3—Relationship pages: In honour of Valentine's Day, add to your OTP's page: add fanwork recs, or write about some common fanon tropes.
  • Day 4—Fanworks: For International Fanworks Day, add your favourite classic works to the Fandom Classic page, or make a new fanwork page for that work.
  • Day 5—Trope or Genre pages: add some fanwork examples, or add more detail to the page about your favourite trope or genre.
  • Day 6—Character pages: add some fanon details, or create a brand new character page.
  • Day 7—Stubs: add to a stub, or add a whole new section to a stub.
