Hanfic is fanfiction written about the band Hanson. The term may have been coined by the author Meg D as early as December 1997:
The HanFic Zone is, in actuality, a Hanson Fanfic (I combined the two and, well, you know). I've been working on it since December 1997, and I'm not even close to finishing it. But If you're interested, keep on going![1]
By mid to late 1998, the term hanfic appeared to be in common usage.[2] [3]
The term hanfiction also has been used, though it is much less common.[4] [5]
The first definition for hanfic on Urban Dictionary is:
Short for Hanson fiction. Long or short stories written about the band Hanson.Started in 1997 when Hanson became popular. First couple of years the stories were similar, founded on the authors personal day dreams about the band. The quality of these stories was rather poor. Basic plot: Hanson moves in next door to a girl, Zac/Taylor/Isaac and girl fall in love.
The quality of these stories has improved greatly over the years, some have even been published as books.
Tulsa 74132, Bed Of Lies, Zac says Tay still wets his bed, Devil/Angel, The Quiet One, Catapult, Beautiful Disaster, Stay are all hanfics.[6]
