Ethan/Kris, known mostly as NewBarkShipping, ヒビクリ (Hibikuri) and/or ゴークリ (Gōkuri)[Notes 1], is a common ship in the Pokémon fandom. It pairs Ethan (Hibiki) and Kris (Kris), the female and male playable characters in Pokémon Crystal respectively.

MangaQuestShipping, which pairs Crystal and Gold, is its cross-canon counterpart in the Pokémon Special manga. QuestShipping, which pairs Marina and Jimmy, is its cross-canon counterpart in the Pokémon anime.

HeartSoulShipping, which pairs Ethan with Lyra from Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver, may be seen as a counterpart ship since Kris' role as the female protagonist character was replaced by Lyra in HGSS.

-Shipping Name Origin

The exact origin of "NewBarkShipping" is likely lost to time, but 09 June 2002 it was seen by fans as their official ship name.[Notes 2] It's likely a play on how both Ethan and Kris come from New Bark Town. It was also one of the first 380 coined -shipping names in the fandom on Neverending Romance. QuestShipping was also coined around this time.[Notes 2]

"MangaQuestShipping" came later. Shadowcat on Serebii.net coined the name sometime circa. 2005.[Notes 3] By 26 December 2005, it was seen as their official ship name.[Notes 3] It comes from adding 'manga' to the already existing ship name for the anime counterpart characters, something seen in several other Special manga ships.

"HeartSoulShipping" was coined even later by "I like Pokemon" on Serebii.net on 17 May 2009.[1]

NewBarkShipping used to have a small section on Bulbapedia as well, which can be seen here (in archived form), Archived version.
