This year Cassandra is getting her due. She's no longer merely a one-dimensional punching bag in fanfic. Janeen Grohsmeyer, Teresa Coffman and most recently HonorH are all showing complex Cassandras who have their own unique viewpoints. I for one am glad to see it. [1]
Cassandra stories seem to fall into one of two categories. Either she's a psychotic bitch driven over the edge by the events of CaH/Rev who takes her madness out on either Mac or Methos until one of them finally puts her down like the dog she is, or she's this virgin-priestess-goddess all-powerful-all-knowing wise-woman. I don't really buy either one, though I have fewer problems with the former since they're usually chock full of angst. :-) [2]

This site happens to focus on fiction containing the character of Cassandra, so of course we highlight how that character is utilized in the course of any particular story. I'm well aware that there are just as likely some of you who hate Cassandra and read these reviews to find more stories to feed your hatred. That's fine. The reviews are here to help you decide whether or not you would like to read a particular story. I do not consider it a crime to hate Cassandra. I consider it inexcusable to hate Cassandra and to write about it badly.
I've seen some accusations lately that because Leah and I like Cassandra and defend her, we therefore hate Methos. I won't even dignify that absurdity with a response. [3]

Cassandra has a bigger part in this than what is posted because I haven't forgotten that she has a little reconciliation of her own to do. This is one of several views I have of Cassandra, (none of which, to date, have managed to satisfy anyone, including me.) But since I think all Immortals go mad at some point if they live long enough, I'm okay with the contradictory views of Cassandra as Good Witch or Bad Witch. Since I'm an extremist, she always seems to be pushed to one end or the other. This is the Good Witch Cassandra, and probably more the character I'd like to see than the one I actually saw. (No Cassandra rant here, but I have doubts about her benevolence in any episode she appears in. At best, I see her like I do most Immies of indeterminate morals -- doing the best they can to get through it all. I actually think she is more like Methos than MacLeod.) [4]
2004
And Cassandra? Weird woman. The whole scene between her and young Duncan [in the episode, "Prophecy"] was rife with sexual innuendo. The kindest face you can put on it is that Cassandra “saw” the impressive man that young Duncan would eventually grow up to be, and just wanted a taste of what was to come, not that she was sexually attracted to the younger version. It is also possible that she was deliberately planting that seed of need and attraction in hopes that when she needed the cooperation of the older
version, she would have the power of remembered adolescent sexual excitement as a tool to manipulate him. Perhaps it was both. Either way, from the predatory way Cassandra acted at the end of the episode, it was clear that sex with Duncan had been on her mind for a long time – perhaps even for some 400 years. Now, *that*’s delayed gratification for you. [5]

... it looks like fandom sensibilities have changed a lot in the last decade, and I want to have the conversations that would happen now. (For instance, as you say, the ugly misogyny re: Cassandra. Her inability to heal and move on from what was done to her is a tragedy, not a character flaw or a cheap attempt to blind Duncan to how awesome Methos is now. [6]
