- Whirl Being Himself: Whirl's playful, sincere yet violent personality in the IDW comics canon may be seen as its own warning in fanworks.
- Parental Whirl: canonically happened with the scraplet sparklings, who later caused havoc on the Lost Light ship. Whirl's adoption of the baby scraplets may be expanded upon in fanworks. Related is "Whirl Junior," a scraplet he named, and the Whirl seen in Transformers Rescue Bots, who may be considered Whirl's daughter due to an easter egg left in by the show staff that shows a child's drawing by her and IDW comics Whirl, implying him being her dad is semi-canon.
- Asexual Whirl: him being ace is a popular headcanon, more so than any other sexuality.
- Jetstream is Whirl: Jetstream, a very minor character in the IDW Comics canon, is sometimes considered by fans to have been Whirl under a different name.
