WandaVision is a streaming television miniseries taking place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, MCU Phase 4, after Avengers: Endgame, and before The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Canon
WandaVision is structured as a chronological set of US situation comedies, which Wanda Maximoff is shown having watched with her family in Sokovia as a child, and later as a captive of Hydra. It moves chronologically, with episodes referencing "The Dick Van Dyke" show, "Bewitched", "I Dream of Jeannie", "The Brady Bunch", "The Mary Tyler Moore show", "Full House", "Malcolm in the Middle", "Modern Family", "The Office", and "Charmed".[1]
The story starts as a fluffy domestic sitcom and slowly reveals itself to be Wanda's response to Vision's futile death at her own hands and the government planning to disassemble his body by imagining herself as a happy family complete with twin sons, while she is being manipulated by an older witch, Agatha Harkness. During this period, government agencies are trying to break through her barrier and stop her, as later revealed, from dominating the people of an entire small town. Embedded in the government agency S.W.O.R.D., but trying to help Wanda, are Monica Rambeau, Darcy Lewis and Jimmy Woo.
Fandom
Several parallels have been drawn between the events and circumstances within Wandavision, and those in Once Upon A Time. Comparisons between Wanda and Regina in particular appeared quite common[2][3][4][5].
While the series was airing there was much fan discussion and theorising about the storylines. The appearance of Pietro Maximoff portrayed by Evan Peters sent the fandom into a tizzy. Peters had portrayed Quicksilver in the X-Men Movieverse, whereas Aaron Taylor Johnson had portrayed Wanda's now deceased brother in the MCU. Fans discussed the merits of the two different versions of Quicksilver, and what the appearance of Evan Peter's Quicksilver meant for the story, with many suspecting a universe crossover event. In the end that would prove to not be the case.
The series has loosely inspired the creation of fanworks outside the MCU fandoms, as is the example of the story A Happy Wife by basaltdyke, a Star Wars fanfic featuring Kylux as a main pairing.
Since the show's end, reader-Insert stories have grown in popularity, with Wanda Maximoff/Reader becoming the second most popular pairing tag of the fandom.
