On August 22, 2002 Rache offered extensive commentary on one of the Vividcon 2002 Nearly New vid show. She posted the commentary to the Vidder mailing list. It is reprinted here with permission.

Begin commentary:

I went to very few of the vid shows, actually, and the first one I caught was the last half of the nearly new show. And as I have run out of time, I'm not going to write up the whole thing, but here are my views on a few of the vids. As usual, YMMV:
Unpack your adjectives :: Stargate:: WOAD (Carol S (vidder)) -- later, sometime on Sunday, I got the chance to ask Carol the question that has bothered me from the first time I saw this vid on-line: why didn't she make daniel the single POV character in this vid? She said that she had figured out how to do that after she'd already released it, and her explanation made sense to me. I was just happy to know that it had occurred to her too.
Falcon in the Dive :: Farscape :: Apocalypse West (Lizbet) -- God, I loved this vid. I loved Crais, loved his obsession, loved his decent into madness, and his redemption, not to mention his death while he still wasn't being trusted. His character was larger than life, and there really had to be a song to support the Wagerian, operatic form of his character -- and this vid does that. The song is from the Scarlet Pimpernel, and it is as big and as dark as Crais is. I want this vid very much.
Satan is my motor :: Brimstone :: sockii -- This vid makes me smile when I see it. There is just something about the repeated line 'Satan is my motor' with John Glover there that gives me much happiness. It's sharp and twisted, and yet bouncy and fun. I love the duality that this vid encompasses. I really appreciate the contrast and wit.
Never Die Young :: Stargate:: Barkley -- this vid makes my Jack-lovin soul very happy. I just adore his bitterness here, and yet how accepting he is of the fate that waits for him. It feels so real, it's a true mesh of the conflicting feelings that we all have about aging, and the mixture of pain, regret, love and understanding is written so strongly in all of his actions that on some of the clips, it really can take my breath away, Jack's 'voice' is so strong. Lovely vid.
A Hazy Shade of Winter:: Witchblade :: Apocalypse West (Chaos) -- When I saw this listed in the program book, I told Sandy how excited I was. "That's a perfect song for Witchblade. It could be an incredible vid. A bad one, too, if they do it wrong, but there is great potential in it." The vid was everything I wanted when I saw the song listed, and going with the Bangles version made it even more perfect, as the female voices suited Pez. I really want a copy of this vid too.
Busted:: Smallville :: Merryish and Katherine Scarritt -- I still think this is a visually stunning vid, the color and movement work together so strongly with the music, that it really creates a very driving message for the viewer. I don't notice the lyrics so much when I'm watching this vid for some reason; the visuals and the music blend together so strongly in my head. I see/hear/feel and experience this vid as one complete body gestalt, and that is absolutely fascinating to me.
You're so Vain :: Star Trek:TOS :: T. Jonesy -- Brilliantly bitter could apply to this vid as well, and I get into fandoms on the clever. The vid's emotionally complex, just as the song is, with bitterness, and exasperation, and an underlying sense of fondness and amazement. It made me laugh and then I would catch my breath over a glimpse of the character's pain. Multi-layered and visually lovely, with lots of good movement. The vid seemed to breathe the way the song breathes, and I was fascinated by that.
