Jack O'Neill is a main character on the television show Stargate SG-1. He is the commander of the SG-1 team at the start of the series, and later gets promoted, first to head of the SGC and then to head of Homeworld Security. He can be both serious and humorous, and there has been some slight tension between directors, the actor and fans over how slapstick he comes across, and how that balances with his past in Special Ops.
He is played by Richard Dean Anderson, formerly of MacGyver fame. In the original Stargate film, he was played by Kurt Russell, where he had the same backstory, but arguably a different personality, and his name was spelled with only one l.
In Stargate SG-1 fandom Jack is part of the two main pairings, Sam/Jack (het) and Jack/Daniel (slash). There is not much crossover between the two factions and fannish activity usually happens in separate places.
Anthony DiNozzo/Jack O'Neill is a rare crossover pairing.
Examples of Jack-centric fanworks include:
- Rydra Wong's gen novel, Walked Right Out of the Machinery, a heroic "fuck you" to the 42-minute reset.
