Unrequited is a slash Stargate SG-1 170-page novel written by Graculus. It was edited and illustrated by TM Alexander.
From the zine: "This novel contains scenes of a graphic homoerotic nature, and will not be sold to minors. An age statement is required for purchase."
The story was originally posted in 40 installments on the JackDaniels listgroup.
Summary
Col. Jack O'Neill finds himself in a tough spot when one of his teammates, Dr. Daniel Jackson, hits him between the eyes with an earth-shaking confession: he's in love with Jack. At first, Jack rejects Daniel, which has its effects on SG-1, but when faced with losing the most precious thing he's ever had, O'Neill is forced to re-evaluate his own feelings, and admit to a truth he's denied for too long. A beautiful and well-written story, which was first posted to the JackDaniels listgroup, Unrequited comes across like an episode of the television series -- but with the added attraction of an intimate relationship between two of the main characters. Editor's Notes
From the zine:
INCOMING SIGNAL... As a fan of Stargate from the original film, I had always been able to "see" the slash possibilities between Jack O'Neill and Daniel Jackson - even when portrayed by Kurt Russell and James Spader. When the television series, Stargate SG-1, came along, there were some doubts: could Richard Dean Anderson, and this relative newcomer Michael Shanks, cut the mustard?
The answer was a hearty YES! Shanks was amazing — he started out playing Daniel as Spader, then gradually evolved into his own personality. Anderson was actually more suited to the role of O'Neill than Russell (IMHO); in fact, I find myself forgetting how the character was portrayed in the film. It's as if these actors were meant to play these parts, all along. And you want to talk slashiness? Oh, mama!
And yet...where was all the fanfic for this series?
Thanks to some friends, I was directed to a couple of online lists — most notably, JackDaniels, which celebrates the relationship between O'Neill and Jackson. There I encountered some incredible, intelligent fans, and some talented fan writers.
One such writer was Graculus. I had barely been on the list when she began posting the"Unrequited" series (which came out in 40 installments). I'd heard good things about Grac's work, and so I started reading. By the end of the first segment, I was hooked. You could've shot me with a zat gun! Wow! This woman can write — and she has an amazing command of the characters, a rarity in most fan stories.
I was overjoyed when Graculus agreed to allow me to publish this novel — not only to bring it to the fans who are not online, but also for the opportunity to illuminate her words with pictures. I only hope that my art can compare to her wonderful tale, and that I've managed to capture theangst and hope that she has woven throughout these pages with such care.
It is an honor for me to present Unrequited...comp\ete, in print, and fully illustrated. Thank you, Graculus — and now, your mother knows you're a "real" writer!
