Fandom History
Baby Steps
Aside from attending a couple Star Trek conventions, I was never in offline fandom. I started in the late 90s online with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, my teenage heart compelling me to learn to write html by hand in order to make Angelfire shrines to David Boreanaz. The only fanfic I remember reading from that era were MSTs. I wrote exactly one super melodramatic Buffy/Angel deathfic that I believe I posted on the Buffy Posting Board and which has thankfully been lost to time.
The Anime Years
From there I got heavily into Digimon. Never wrote any fic for it, but drew a little bit of dodgy fanart and maintained the Digimon Script Archive on GeoCities, where I transcribed the English-dubbed episodes of season one and hosted others' fic and art. I remember the shocked glee I felt when I first discovered Taito: "They made them gay?!" *gasp* If my past self could see me now. =)
As Gundam Wing started around that time, I ended up really into that as well, and wasted no time going straight to shipping 2x1. From there I spent the next years of my life downloading 25MB RealPlayer files over mIRC and Streamload and amassing a terrifying number of anime dvds. I even spent a year in Tokyo and came home with suitcases full of manga and doujinshi.
While in Japan in 2001, I created my first AMV for Fruits Basket, which lead to several years of vidding. I did some art and/or AMVs for Yami no Matsuei, GetBackers, and Flame of Recca.
RPF
Got into Bennoda (Chester Bennington/Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park). Wrote a short fic and created a slash vid using concert footage (difficult!). Also got into Natuzzi (Marcus Naslund/Todd Bertuzzi of the Vancouver Canucks) and created a slash vid using hockey game and interview footage (also difficult!).
Games and Comics
Began playing World of Warcraft in 2006, wrote some fusions with Stargate Atlantis and created a number of videos chronicling in-game events. A passionate fling with webcomic Homestuck led to fanart and my first attempt at creating a short animation.
