Wikipedia just calls it a current event [1], though "unfolding" is rather poetic.--æþel 23:36, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- Is that an objection? I'm quite happy to change it, though I do like the idea of being different to Wikipedia :) --Awils1 09:10, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, not really. I guess if we wanted the notice to take up less space we could follow Wikipedia, but not following Wikipedia has its own appeal. I don't have a strong opinion on this, except to say: we should probably attach a category to this. We could call it Category:Current Event?--æþel 13:47, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
- Seems good to me -- I'll create the category and announce it on the DW comm :) --Awils1 07:14, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
- I am just silly -- where should the Category:Current Events go? --Awils1 09:39, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

attach category?
I think a category needs to be added to this template so that gardeners can easily check the pages to make sure that the situation is still "unfolding". I just came across a page where the template was on the page for three years.--aethel (talk) 19:46, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
- I have added Category:Unfolding Events to this template, but not created the category yet. I'm not sure where to put it or if we want to change the name of category? You can still click the redlink to see where this template is currently in use.
- It's currently on 21 pages. Youtube's Adpocalypse in 2017 is apparently still unfolding xD So, I think a category is a great way to monitor how this template is being used. Thoughts on naming the category and where to put it?? --Auntags (talk) 22:37, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
- Because this is the second time this suggestion has been raised and we're stuck on the same question - where should the category go? - I'm going to create this category so we don't forget about it again! And we can continue to discuss where it should go. For now, I'll add it to Category:Attention Gardeners. --Auntags (talk) 00:26, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
- I think the issue with adding it to Attention Gardeners is that that category is only supposed to contain things that have been flagged for Gardener attention - whether pages or categories - and not be a permanent parent category. Would Category:Fanlore Gardening maybe be a better home, since then it would sit alongside all our other notices? --enchantedsleeper (talk) 20:01, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
- I'd be in favour of that! --Auntags (talk) 20:04, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
- Now that I look at Category:Fanlore Gardening and see the other "Pages that need..." type notices, that makes perfect sense to me too, as a location! And belatedly, thanks Auntags for creating it as its own category. Joanna R (talk) 20:22, 18 March 2023 (UTC)

Confusing terminology and phrasing
Since the creation of the OceanGate page, I've been having some thoughts about this template that I would like to spit out.
- The phrasing 'unfolding situation' isn't common as say, Current Event or Ongoing Event. At the very least, I'd like to make {{Current event}} and {{Ongoing event}} and have them as templates that call back to this one, much in the same way that {{main}} and {{main article}} call the same hatnote template.
- 'Unfolding situation' is an evocative phrase but IMO, implies something either negative or unexpected. Describing, say, a convention currently ongoing as an 'unfolding situation' would be awkward. Not sure what the solution is here besides a full-on rename, but it's a concern that I would like to bring up.
- 'This article documents a currently unfolding situation within the fannish realm.' 'Within the fannish realm' may be interpreted that the event only impacts fans or is only of interest to fans. But we do document stuff that is not only of interest to fans, such as writer's strikes. I think a better phrasing would be '...that is of interest to fans.' This may be splitting hairs, but I think it's something that could make documenting non-fannish things that are of interest to fans more clear. Pinky G Rocket (talk) 23:25, 27 June 2023 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has code in their notices to display when a notice was added. While most Fanlore notices don't have this, this may be something to add to this notice to give an indication of when the situation was considered current and an implicit nudge to editors to remove outdated notices.
