Talk:Kirk & Spock
Should this page be renamed with an ampersand instead of a hyphen? It's referred to as K&S on the page. Is the relationship often referred to as Kirk-Spock and not Kirk&Spock?--æthel 00:07, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
The point of the terms pairing, threesome and moresome is that they are about sexual/erotic relationships. Calling everything relationship and then throwing pages about friendships (Gen) and sexual relationships all together makes it impossible to properly search for either. Where was the discussion for this? If there was a template/category missing for friendships, we should make one for friendships. --Doro (talk) 20:01, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
Disambig or rename
The title of this page is extremely confusing, especially since Kirk/Spock is the fandom slash ship. In addition, a dash doesn't really mean anything in panfandom parlance in the same way that & or / does. Not sure what it should be renamed to, but it's an issue that I wanted to bring up. - I think the page is about how they used to distinguish between slash and platonic back in the zines days, so if you saw kirk-spock instead of kirk/spock then you knew it was a friendship story and not a slash story. This is obviously no longer in use. At least that is how I'm interrupting it, but I'm going to give a shout out to MPH our resident Trek zine expert -- Kingstoken (talk) 19:48, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
- At first, the virgule was for BOTH slash and intense relationship/buddy fanworks starring Kirk and Spock, and it later became a way to reference a sexual/physically intimate relationship. The list of zines on this page depicted relationship stories, and for some, the line was very, very thin.
- In any case, the term "Kirk-Spock" isn't one that is widely used as it was the default as it was understood what was shown on the screen to mainstream audiences, and "K/S" was the clue the story contained other elements. I think that if folks want to have a page that talks about non-sexual, "gen" relationships between Kirk and Spock, I'd suggest redirecting this page to "K&S." That page could include discussion how the "/" (which used to suggest platonic) changed, and link to pages such as history of the term. That page should then contain much more about what fans saw and portrayed in "K&S" fanworks: example fanworks about their early relationship, how it changed as they grew older, tropes... - Thanks MPH. As K&S and Kirk & Spock already redirect here, I'm going to move this page to Kirk & Spock and make Kirk-Spock the redirect instead. I'll also add headers and an expand article flag to encourage editors to add more information on the evolution of the gen ship. If anyone disagrees, please feel free to raise any issues here or edit the page directly! --Auntags (talk) 22:41, 9 July 2023 (UTC)
