How is this page fannish? --MPH (talk) 14:39, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

There is dialogue used in almost every piece of fanfiction, and cliche/tropey examples were provided. If you check the pages that link here, you will see how it connects to at least some examples. More examples to come, I promise. - Jacksbrak (talk) 23:01, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
Idk, It seems like if the page is just meant to be a list of tropes used in fanfics/fanworks, shouldn't those just be their own separate pages? Though I'm a little iffy on considering general body language like flipping someone off or telling someone you love them are tropes, or even inherently fannish. Tropes like bloodswap, darkfic, and camping (trope) are clear fandom related tropes. But the sections here just sorta remind me of English class. Or just people chatting/emoting in general. I feel like it would be similar to making a page describing the range human facial expressions and saying that because fan artists draw characters making them that a page on facial expressions would be warranted, instead of just pages for faces of fandom/internet value (like Ahegao face). In the IT fandom, we have a couple of canon scenes where someone is flipped off, this was then repeated in canon in two of our main actors' other films/shows: Shazam! and I Am Not Okay With This. People have used these scenes to inspire gif sets, and fanfiction where the action is repeated. That's why it is fannish to me. And I have previously contact fanlore for help as to when it's appropriate to make individual pages for things, and was told to try making a compilation page for smaller incidences. Does that make any sense? -Jacksbrak (talk) 23:51, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
In that case, Jacksbrak, perhaps a page entitled Dialogue in IT Fandom would be more appropriate? The advice that MPH previously gave you to create a compilation page was for fashion in IT fandom, as that's the kind of page with a narrow enough scope that you could reasonably flesh it out (as opposed to simply a page on "fashion", which would be very broad), but not so granular that it would be hard to find substantial things to say (which might be the case if you created pages for every single type of accessory).
But a page that simply covers "Dialogue" is so broad that it could have an infinite number of sub-sections covering an infinite number of types, manifestations, and examples, only some of which actually have relevance to fandom. Such a page would become very unwieldy very quickly and difficult to ever flesh out comprehensively. So, it is better to constrain the page scope to something that is directly fandom-relevant (in this case, the way that IT fans specifically use and transform dialogue).
I hope that helps? --enchantedsleeper (talk) 04:01, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

Plans for this page

Should this page be deleted, or can it be reworked somehow to have relevant information/remove irrelevant content? --caes (talk) 02:00, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

Hmmm seems like it hasn't been edited or had the talk page responded to in a while by the original creator. I thought making a Dialogue in IT page instead would be fine, but personally idk about keeping this specific page if there doesn't seem to be any way to make it look more specific. Patchlamb (talk) 19:05, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
I do think the page as it is right now, is not specific to any fandom and it isn't focused on fannish dialogue. BUT I recently created a page for a website that was a searchable database of dialogue, so I do wonder if the page could be fleshed out to focus more on those kinds of fan activities and how fan's use dialogue/quotes. There are blogs devoted to posting only canon quotes. Some quotes have become memes in their own right. These are just thinky thoughts I'm having, and I'm interested to see what other editors think... --Auntags (talk) 22:33, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
That doesn't sound too bad, I know some fans will take it upon themselves to transcribe canon dialogue, too. There was a project in the hlvrai fandom where they were gathering people to collectively help transcribe the videos/streams. And I know sometimes fans will make icons of their fav shows/characters and put their favorite quotes from the show on it, which could be part of a dialogue page. Fans also make animations/animatics that take canon dialogue and repurpose it by re-animating it. Patchlamb (talk) 23:36, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
Those are both topics I could see being covered, but I think those should be on pages for Quote and Transcript/Fansub instead? Dialogue is such a general term that isn't particularly significant in fandom as far as I know, as opposed to there being a lot of content like "incorrect quotes," quote bots, etc. --caes (talk) 20:02, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
That's a good point too! Maybe we should start new pages for stuff like that and get rid of this page? Dialogue is a pretty broad term and more focused pages on things like that might be more of a benefit Patchlamb (talk) 17:42, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
As a result of this discussion, we have a new stub for Transcripts \o/ As we appear to be leaning towards deleting this page, I will add a proposed deletion flag. Anyone who thinks the page should be kept and worked on has two weeks to raise an objection. --Auntags (talk) 22:32, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
