Talk:Dee Laundry
This sounds more like what should go on your user profile page. --Kyuuketsukirui 05:35, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
I based it off Zulu's page, albeit in my own style. What do you think should be added or done differently? --Dee
- You can leave it here if you want; it's just that this is a public page that can be edited by anyone, so there's a chance your style won't be maintained as other people come in and add/edit what's here, and you won't have control over the information that winds up here. (Like, for instance, your last sentence will probably be edited out at some point; public person-pages aren't really for personal/biographical commentary.) Usually people put their own personal version of their fannish background into their user page -- the only people who can edit userpages are the users themselves, and the wiki staff if need be. --Arduinna 23:24, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- Er, yeah, and the Zulu page also has a "needs cleanup to meet wiki standards" flag on it. XD So perhaps not the best page to use as an example? --Kyuuketsukirui 02:57, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- Man, I'm really having a hard time finding good examples of what to do! Most of the fan pages are just stubs, but you could browse through the category to get an idea. Liviapenn, Maya, and M. are pretty good examples. Basically, jokey personal pages are for your user info. --Kyuuketsukirui 03:04, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
....I guess the part about "Consists of 99% win, 1% deadly radon gas" is as good a time as any to ask about Fanlore's policy on jokes. Obviously it's not true, but it's not as if anyone would seriously believe it either. Should we bother to fix such things, or just let the humor fly as part of the fannish PPOV?--Bellaboo 00:36, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
The post on my CLH banning would make absolutely no sense to anyone who hadn't been involved so I took that reference out. --DeeLaundry 13:59, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, but... whether it makes sense or not to outsiders -- we do need a reference. YXou can always add an explanatory note to it. The readers can then judge for themselves. So, just cite it. My yardstick is that Fanlore is a resource, so articles needs to be transparent to a degree (e.g. through wikilinks to explanatory pages and references.) So, people who do not know you can usually judge better whether your personal article is a good source of information or simply opaque to 'outsiders'. --lian 14:24, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- That's kind of the point, isn't it? :D People *won't* know anything about this person Dee, so it's up to the article to explain her history, her impact on fandom, etc. Explaining why you were banned from CLH could be interesting/informative. --Bellaboo 18:43, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- I was banned because I angered a mod by, in one particular post, being an ass. To understand why I angered a mod and judge my relative level of ass-ness, you'd have to know a lot about the CLH community and my history with it. If a person reading the entry doesn't dive into that background, he or she is not going to be able to judge correctly. It's about context. Screaming at the top of your lungs in a library is hugely rude; at a stadium full of fans, it's not so bad. And I'm sure for 99% of the people the story isn't worth all the background. --DeeLaundry 19:00, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
- I still think it'd be a worthy contribution because it'd help illustrate what Capslock_house is like (which would be a good thing, because I don't know how you could understand LJ-House fandom without knowing about CLH). And it's not so much about judgement as it is about information. If context is needed, it can be added, and I think you'd be surprised at how many people *would* be interested. People poking through fanlore generally want to know what's gone down in the fandom, in the past, as well as how fannish communities/interactions work.
So if you don't want to explain for personal reasons, that's more than fair. But if you're worried about it being relevant information, I'm pretty sure it is.--Bellaboo 19:33, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
Disambiguation
There is also a Dee Nicholson page. Disambiguation needed? --Doro 14:32, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- I'm moving to "Dee Laundry" and making a disambiguation page. --Mrs. Potato Head 15:05, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
