I checked to see if this term was exclusive to media cons like Dead Dog Panel, but fancyclopedia and wikifur have an entry on it, so probably not.--aethel (talk) 23:33, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

No, it's used everywhere - it's just the dead dog panel one that seems to be media cons only as far as I know. --Marcus Rowland (talk) 23:58, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

TIL this is also called a Dead Cow Party; see here, here here, here and here for sample usage.--Assassin J (talk) 05:49, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Draw Party

I've recently come upon the term Draw Party from Homestuck fandom on the wildest shit that happened in homestuck’s fanbase: " The concept of a “draw party” was also a Homestuck invention, I believe, draw parties being midnight meetups at dead parts of the con center where people sat around, trading art cards and generally hanging out but with the common theme of them all being Homestuck fans." Is this similar enough to a dead dog party to be added as a synonym or section on this page? – caes (talk) 16:16, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

I imagine draw parties have changed since I last attended one but their purpose/function is completely different from dead dog parties, so draw parties will need their own page for sure. Draw parties aren't to celebrate the con being over and they don't involve the people who run the convention, they're just a social event for people to fill up their con schedule the same as like... a photoshoot meet up or whatever. Also it sounds like dead dog parties are... like.... a traditional kind of party (sometimes happen in a house/hotel/hotel room, sometimes there's food/cake, many people there know each other, the point is to blow off steam post-con/talk about how the con went, etc) but the draw parties I attended was just like. a bunch of strangers agreeing to arrive in the same empty con space (often just a random hallway or something) at the same time to doodle and trade art cards and make friends and stuff. When the quote says "dead parts of the con" it means parts of the convention center where nothing else is going on — so that the horde of homestucks wouldn't be in anyone's way — which is different from how "dead" is used in "dead dog party". - Hoopla (talk) 18:10, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

Furry Fandom

A search for dead dog party on Youtube turns up almost exclusively results from furry conventions, which seems significant. Also found this. Can I make the statement that are a significant furry fandom practice? – caes (talk) 00:23, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

I think that that's fair to say considering they have a whole page on it! They also cite the fanlore page on their page so, like, it's def the same thing. - Hoopla (talk) 00:36, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
