enchantedsleeper why did you remove the AO3 and FFN stats from the page? -- Kingstoken (talk) 00:15, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

Kingstoken: I mentioned it in my edit summary and vote on the Featured Article nomination, but I find these date very quickly and so it puts us in a situation of either having a page that reads as dated or having to perpetually update the stats. I also feel like they're only a useful indicator of popularity for a fanwork if you know what type of numbers are normal for the fandom. --enchantedsleeper (talk) 21:18, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
Why not just include "as of [month] [year]"? Lots of fanlore pages include these statistics, and I think it's helpful for giving a sense of scale; it's more specific that "a lot".--aethel (talk) 21:22, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
To me it's still a very obvious indicator that "this is when this intro was created/updated" and the further you get from that date, the less current they read as. I also feel like the focus on pure numbers isn't always as meaningful a sign of a fic's resonance with fans as "this fic is considered a fandom classic/gateway fic into the pairing".
But it is my personal opinion, so we can put them back if I'm on my own here. Admittedly we have lots of other signifiers that pop up on Fanlore saying "this was clearly when this part of the page was last edited/updated" - this is just more prominent because it's right there in the intro. --enchantedsleeper (talk) 10:44, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
Maybe if you don't like them in the intro paragraph we could but them somewhere else in the article? -- Kingstoken (talk) 14:14, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
I really like seeing stats because they give a more concrete number for how popular something is/was, though yeah updating them can be a hassle and not updating them can show that the page may be out of date. But what if there was a section that had stats for the fic for more than 1 year? That way it's instead stats through time, and keeping them updated wouldn't be necessary since it would be a stat timeline/list. It could include stats from it's 1st year online, a middle point, then 2022 maybe? Patchlamb (talk) 15:46, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
That could be interesting, if we can find those. Regarding where stats might appear on the page, if not in the intro - we could maybe have a general "Reception" section with a section for stats/metrics and then the reviews as a subsection? --enchantedsleeper (talk) 22:07, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
