What was your first experience with fanfic?

I used to be into Star Trek and Dr. Who. I read a lot of APAs...Amateur Press Association publications/fanzines that were devoted to both shows. I've also been a long time member of the science-fiction, fantasy and horror fan community and back before the Internet, fanzines were the only game in town for getting a fanfic fix.

What was your first encounter with X-Files fanfic?

I read a story by Amperage and Livengoo titled "Oklahoma" which blew me away.

What made you into a Skinneroticist?

Because I wanted to be six foot 2 inches tall, muscular, bald, surly and sexy so I did the next best thing and wrote about someone who looks that way? ROFL. Maybe that has something to do with it. I think I saw a little of myself in both Skinner (and Mulder too for that matter) so writing the character in hot sexual situations had a certain appeal.

Since I'm not particular about whether it's a male or female sexual partner I give both Het fic and Slash fic equal time. But I have a particular soft spot for threesomes I guess because I like to see everyone have a good time. I'm an equal opportunity eroticist I guess.

Skinner is a hottie, let's face it. Besides his obvious physical assets and the face he looks great in a suit...he's got an unknown quality about him, even something a bit dangerous and that makes him attractive. He's a bit of a tragic hero, he has his flaws but he's done what he thought best under difficult circumstances...and he's paid for his mistakes along the way. He's obviously got a soft interior to go with his surly exterior and in his conversion to believer and the upheaval that's caused him, we're getting to see that softer side come out a bit more...something I haven't minded as much because I think it's humanizing and balancing out the character a bit more. So, Skinner if enjoyable to write, because he's dynamic, attractive, and has enough that's not known about him to make filling in the blanks an interesting experience.

What was your first experience withSIS?

When I first got interested in writing Skinner I did a search for sites devoted to him and SIS came up in the search. I read "Sharp Focus" by Lyrica, got hooked and read everything I could on the site.

What are your top five all-time favorite stories?

Oh man...just five? Ok, let's see. In no particular order: Oklahoma by Amperage and Livengoo. Vestigy by Lisby. Playing Goddess by Shalimar. Sharp Focus by Lyrica and ok, I couldn't quite do it...it's a tie here: Denny's Cycle Series by Ethan Nelson, I Still Have Plans To Go To Mexico by JiM and MJ.

What was the first X-files/Skinner story that you wrote and what inspired it?

The first X-Files story I wrote was an MSR story titled "A Hard Days Night". I guess I was inspired by the idea that it would be fun to let Mulder and Scully work out their UST. LOL.

Later on, I wrote two stories around the same time that featured Skinner. One was ostensibly an MSR titled "Standin' at the Crossroads" but that was also SK/O and featured M/SC/SK friendship as well. I think I was inspired to write that one because of some reading I was doing about demonic possession at the time. The other Skinner story was "Electric Chair" and that was an experiment in Skinner eroticism. It was inspired both by Mitch Pileggi's role in the film "Shocker" (the title for the story that is) and the song "Electric Chair" from the Batman soundtrack by Prince. So I guess you could call that one a songfic. LOL.

Where do your ideas come from? What inspires you?

I guess my interests in the occult, paranormal and supernatural as well as certain horror and science-fiction premises have inspired me over the years. The show used to inspire me and give me ideas. This season that hasn't been the case as much to be honest. I haven't really liked the direction the show's taking at this juncture very much. So, I've kind of moved beyond where the show's going in terms of story canon, although I have used some of the themes, like Mulder's abduction and Skinner's conversion to believing and his helping and supporting Scully. I've been exploring where I'd like to see the storyline go I guess.

One of the things that's kept me interested in delving into the characters and taking them to new places is the "I Want to Believe" writer's list. We've had some great discussions over there regarding the show in general and Skinner in particular. There have been some great list challenges and round robins which have also reinvigorated my muse.

How do you deal with writer's block?

If I have writers block I take a break and do something completely different. Go do some farm work or take the dogs for a run. Anything to get some exercise because I've found that works the best to get my creative juices flowing again.

Do you write anything other than fanfic or are you planning to?

I did a little writing in college, mostly movie reviews. I've toyed with the idea of writing a horror novel and actually have the start of one on my hard drive...but I don't know if I have the commitment, energy or interest to write a novel for publication. Otherwise, the only thing I wrote other than fanfic, was an article about Skinner for The Conduit, an X-Files web zine.
