The Scout is one of the nine playable classes in Team Fortress 2.
Canon
The Scout (real name Jeremy) is a cocky, loudmouthed speedster originally from Boston, Massachusetts. He is the youngest of eight brothers, and believes himself to be the biological son of Tom Jones (though a scene in the official TF2 comics implies that his real father is the Spy.) He is infatuated with Miss Pauling, a feeling that she does not reciprocate.
Fandom
Scout is one of the most popular characters among fans of TF2, owing to his distinct personality and his starring role in the official short film Expiration Date. As of December 2023, Scout is the second-most commonly tagged character in works for TF2 on Archive of Our Own, appearing in over 4350 works; roughly 46% of the total TF2 works on the site. He also appears in over 600 works on FanFiction.Net.
He is commonly given the Fanon Personal Name Elbertson, an homage to the popular streamer and fellow Bostonian Jerma985, who got his start with TF2 content and was the inspiration for Scout's canon first name.
Pairings
Scout is most commonly paired with Sniper. This ship, nicknamed Speeding Bullet, is currently one of the most popular relationships in the TF2 fandom. Scout has also been paired with every other merc in the game, with the pairing of him and Medic and him and Pyro being relatively common. The pairing of Scout/Spy has become controversial within the fandom due to the heavily implied blood relation between them.
