Ray Palmer is a DC Comics character that is known as the superhero Atom. He is currently appearing on the live-action series Legends of Tomorrow, spin-off of Arrow & The Flash, portrayed by Brandon Routh.

Canon Overview

Ray made his first appearance in Showcase #34 (October 1961). He has the ability to shrink and grow his body and other objects to varying degrees (including the subatomic level) while manipulating his weight to his advantage.

Ray was first mentioned on Justice League, but first appeared on Justice League Unlimited in four episodes.

Ray Palmer first appears in the third season premiere in Arrow, and takes over Queen Consolidated. Ray convinces Felicity Smoak to work for him (he later has a romantic relationship with her as well). He eventually re-branded the company under the name "Palmer Technologies". He's also appeared in The Flash. And due to assumed death at the end of Season 3, Starling City name is changed to Star City (the actual name from the comics). In Season 4, it's revealed that he accidentally shrunk himself down and was kidnapped by Damien Darhk. He joins the team on Legends of Tomorrow, hoping to find purpose again and to defeat Vandal Savage.

Other Appearances

He's also appeared in the animated series: Young Justice, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, DC Nation Short, The Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure, The All-New Super Friends Hour and Super Friends. Ray has also appeared in the 1979 TV special Legends of the Superheroes.

In the Arrow fandom, Ray is mainly shipped with Felicity Smoak known as "Raylicity". He's later shipped with Oliver Queen. With the release of the Legends of Tomorrow trailer/First Look, Ray was begun to be shipped with Sara Lance, Leonard Snart, and Kendra Saunders. Since the release of the pilot Ray/Leonard pairing took off, he is also shipped with Mick Rory, Rip Hunter, and a few threesomes: Ray/Leonard/Mick, Ray/Leonard/Rip, and Ray/Leonard/Sara.

The pairing Ray/Kendra (known as "Atomic Hawk") is later canonized in the LoT series.
