Phelpscest refers to the fictional RPF twincest ship of actors James and Oliver Phelps, best known for playing Fred and George Weasley in the Harry Potter film series.

As a real-person incest ship, it is controversial. Therefore, many fanworks and discussion of the pairing may be friendslocked or otherwise restricted from public view.

There was probably Phelpcest fanfiction as early as 2003,[note 1] but the pairing first took off on LiveJournal in 2005.

On LiveJournal, Phelpscest fanfiction can be found at the hp_rps community, but the community does not use tags and the pairing does not have a section in the community memories. In October 2006, Twinspiration was founded for both James/Oliver and Fred/George fanworks and "fan appreciation".

James Phelps/Oliver Phelps was the only pairing category for either Phelps twin at the RPS archive A Bit of Imagination.

As of May 2021, there were 30 works tagged James Phelps/Oliver Phelps at AO3.[1] There has been an influx of Chinese-language Phelpcest fics posted to AO3 in the 2020s.

  1. ^ See this comment thread at afamilyaffair in response to the "Twins Against Twincest" incident. The discussion is about exposing James and Oliver to the Fred/George pairing, but one commenter notes: "But there IS fanfic about them as people," in addition to fic about their characters.
