  • Peony is most commonly paired up with Kabu, forming SmeltShipping[1][Notes 1], aka Peokab, though its -shipping name is rarely used by fans. In Japanese, this is most often called ピオカブ (Piokabu), meaning Peony is the seme and Kabu is the uke in the coupling.

Subjects of Fannish Interest & Meta

Penny, a character introduced in 2022's Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, wasn't initially introduced to players as Peony's daughter. While hinted at during the story, which was noted by some fans in speculative meta[2], it wasn't canonical until the release of The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk DLC in 2023. Some fans thought it didn't fit Peony's character to have never mentioned Penny during the SWSH DLC and that Penny doesn't look biracial, or share many physical characteristics with either Peony or Peonia.[3] Generally, however, the reveal was met positively.[4][5]

Some headcanons are that Peony latches onto the player in the Crown Tundra partially due to his estrangement with both his daughters[6] and that he'd be supportive of trans!Penny[4].

  1. ^ technically, as "SmeltShipping" is the name of a much more common Ninjago pairing
