Oola is a minor character who appeared briefly in the third Star Wars film, Return of the Jedi. A dancer and slave to the crime lord Jabba the Hutt, Oola is murdered by her master when he tosses her into the rancor pit below his throne room as punishment for her defiance.

In Star Wars Legends tie-in novels, Oola is revealed to have been kidnapped from her home planet by Jabba's majordomo Bib Fortuna, and encounters Luke Skywalker, who urges her to come with him rather than continuing on to the palace. Oola hesitates, ultimately regretting her choice when she discovers Fortuna has deceived her about what Jabba is really like. Heartened by Skywalker's holographic message to Jabba, Oola's last dance is for Skywalker.

The Young Jedi Knights series introduces Oola's half-sister Nolaa Tarkona, an anti-human activist who is consumed by the need to avenge Oola's senseless slaughter, who occasionally appears in fanworks as well. Other fanworks connect Oola to Hera Syndulla, a Rebel Twi'lek leader and protagonist of the Star Wars Rebels animated TV series.

Fan Reactions

Most fans are generally sympathetic towards the character and regard her death as tragic. "Justice for Oola!", "Free Oola!" and "that poor girl deserved better" are comment sentiments.

Oola is also extremely popular in NSFW or explicit fan art and fic, due to her canon outfit and status as Jabba's slave.
