Nagito Komaeda/Sans, mostly known as Sansmaeda, is a popular crack crossover pairing that came about around 2017 on Twitter and Tumblr. It pairs Nagito Komaeda, the most popular character to come from Dangan Ronpa, with Sans, who's the most popular character to come from Undertale.

Originally largely contained to both fandoms, particularity Dangan Ronpa, in January 2018, the pairing became a widespread meme online, with the meme "Fingers in his ass Sunday" being heavily associated with them. This exposed the pairing to many people. As of 2024, the pairing is still widely joked about online, with many shipping them -- both unironically and ironically.

In 2020, the pairing got a boost in notability after the Tumblr Sexyman Awards popularized Reigen Arataka/Sans, a similar crack ship. The two pairings may be in fanworks together, with Komada and Reigen Arataka from Mob Psycho 100 being romantic rivals.

Canon Background

Dangan Ronpa 2: Goodbye Despair and Undertale, both story-driven, non-action focused video games with a large cast of characters, released within three years of each other. DR2 released in 2012 and Undertale released in 2015. In the mid-2010s, many were fans of both. They had similar-sized fandoms, particularly on Tumblr, and both fandoms were well known for their meme culture, with certain ones circulating for years and new ones being made often.

Komaeda and Sans share several things in common, both personality and story-wise. Both initially present as simply laid back and friendly when the player meets them, only to show their more pragmatic (in Sans's case) or morally dubious (in Komaeda's case) sides later on. Sans is revealed to have a pragmatic side to his character at the end of the game, acting as the final boss to Frisk if they choose the "Genocide" route, and Komaeda's revealed to be a threat to Hajime Hinata only a little into DR2, after he admits to manipulating another character to murder another to inspire hope to his other classmates in the in-game killing game. Both became breakout and fan favorite characters soon after their fandoms got big and were more associated with popular memes than any other DR or UT character.

Fanwork History

~2017, a meme of bald Komaeda standing in Undertale's Last Corridor spread on Tumblr. This image would later break containment and be used in the background of the "Fingers in his ass Sunday" meme video made later in the year.

Fingers in his ass Sunday

The meme was made by skeletortilla, first on Twitter [Unable to archive] in November 2017 and later reposted to Tumblr, Archived version in January 2018. It was made in MikuMikuDance, a 3D model animation program where fans can create or rip 3D models from other sources for other users to play around with. It combines the bald Komaeda meme mentioned above, an asset of Undertale's flowers by a 3D modeler for MMD (uncredited; unknown), dancing animation (uncredited; unknown,) and 3D models made by fans for Sans (uncredited; unknown) and Komaeda (uncredited; unknown,) with ASSGORE by BotanicSage, a mashup artist popular for his music. ASSGORE (Fingerfückung), Archived version, made in 2016, sampled Miss New Booty by Bubba Sparxxx and Asgore's theme from Undertale and was made as a diss track to Kanye West after a false copyright violation by Kanye's music studio took down one of his previous mashup songs on YouTube.

Later, the video was reblogged with the caption "fingers in his ass sunday" by grapiibear, combining the video with the Energy Sword Sunday meme from the Halo fandom. This repost got skeletortilla's original post more traction, with it being regularly reblogged on Sundays and well known to many Tumblr users.

In 2019, BotanicSage made the sequel song CHAOS FINGERS, Archived version, embracing the meme and its connection to Komaeda and Sans.
