A government assigned ship refers to a ship or pairing of members within a K-pop group that is heavily promoted or encouraged by the group's management company (TPTB), often for the purpose of generating fan interest and engagement.
The term originated on K-Pop Stan Twitter. Fans noticed certain member pairings being consistently featured or highlighted in group content, such as photos, videos, and interviews, dubbing these as having support from the "government", or more precisely their entertainment agency. These pairings are often characterised for significant fanservice and skinship.
In South Korea, these are sometimes called "Business Gay Relationships", and was popularised by pairings from SM Entertainment, most notably Yunjae.[1]

Some of the most well-known examples of government assigned ships include:[2]
- Yunjae (Yunho/Jaejoong) from TVXQ
