Dong Bang Shin Ki (동방신기) or DBSK is a popular Korean boyband under SM Entertainment that debuted December 26, 2003 on "The Britney and BoA Christmas Special." The five members are Kim Jae Joong (김재중 or HERO 在中, also known as YoungWoong (영웅), which means "hero" in Korean), Jung Yun Ho (정윤호 or U-know 允浩), Park Yoo Chun (박유천 or Micky 有天), Kim Jun Su (김준수 or Xiah 俊秀) and Shim Chang Min (심창민 or MAX 昌珉, also known as Choikang (최강)). [1] In Japan, they are known as Tohoshinki (東方神起) or THSK. In addition to their musical activities, they acted in 8 episodes of the SBS series "Banjun Drama"[2] and the feature-length TV drama "Vacation."[3])

Enormously popular in Asia (especially Korea, Japan, China, Thailand, and Malaysia) [4], they have a large international and multilingual fandom producing fanwork, chiefly fan fiction, fanart, fansubs and vids.[5]

RPF Fandom

DBSK has an active RPF fandom, which is primarily slash based. There is some het fan fiction as well, mostly through crossovers with other K-pop artists such as CSJH The Grace, BoA, any member of Girls' Generation, and other SM Artists .

Slash fan fiction can feature any of the band members in any combination, including "OT5" (One True 5), which does not always mean a romantic or sexual relationship involving all 5 members, but can also mean affection and support for all 5 members in a "team" dynamic. Common pairings are Jae Joong and Yun Ho (often denoted as "JaeHo" or "YunJae"), Yoo Chun and Jun Su (usually denoted as "YooSu"), Jae Joong and Chang Min ("JaeMin" but also known by the fannish nickname "Soul Fighters"), and Jae Joong and Yoo Chun ("JaeChun," "ChunJae," or the fannish nickname "Soulmates").

The existence of slash was acknowledged in the "Banjun Drama" episode "Dangerous Love" (aired March 12, 2006). The episode's secondary plot revolves around Yun Ho showing Jae Joong a slash story, leading Jae Joong to wonder about Yun Ho's sudden attentiveness.

Due to TVXQ's disbanding around late 2009 and mid 2010 caused by the lawsuit filled out by members Kim Jae Joong, Park Yoo Chun and Kim Jun Su against TVXQ's entertainment agency SM Entertainment, the band's fandom is currently and often divided in the ones supporting JYJ (Jae Joong, Yoo Chun and Jun Su), and the current TVXQ (Jung Yun Ho and Shim Chang Min). This has resulted in the increase of popularity of the old, well-known couples, as well as of the ones considered as more unusual or less supported, such as: "HoMin" (Yun Ho and Chang Min), "JaeSu" (Jae Joong and Jun Su), and other variations.
