Chuuves (츄브) is the pairing of Chuu (Kim Jiwoo) and Yves (Ha Sooyoung) from LOONA. It is one of the most popular pairings in the LOONA fandom.

Alternative Names

Korean fans often refer to the pairing as "입추" (Ibchu), which coincidentally is also the term for the beginning of autumn in East Asian cultures (立秋, August 7-8). Some fans have designated August 8 as "Chuuves Day."

Some other names for this pairing include:

  • JiSoo (지수; Jiwoo and Sooyoung)
  • Yvuu (입유; Yves and Chuu)
  • YvesChuu (입츄, Ib-Chuu)
  • YvesChu (입추, Ib-Chu)
  • Chves and Yuu
  • Eevee and Pikachu

Fandom

The pairing gained significant popularity following Chuu's debut solo "Heart Attack," which featured Yves as the love interest. The music video was widely praised for its WLW (women loving women) representation and queer-coding. The video's imagery and symbolism, such as Chuu offering a green apple to Yves, were interpreted by many fans as depicting unrequited queer love.

In response to this interpretation, Yves has commented:

"I think I should answer this," when asked why LOONA are so beloved by those identifying as LGBTQ+. "I heard the LGBTQ+ community was really interested in the continued worlds of 'New' [her solo single] and Chuu’s solo, 'Heart Attack, When the song was being written and the video filmed, we didn’t see it like that. For us, it was a story about yearning, but we were also thankful when it was translated that way. You may have realized it during 'Butterfly', but we want to go beyond gender, race, and nationality,[1]

"Heart Attack" has since an gay anthem by both Korean and international fans. It was even one of the main songs played at the 2018 Seoul Pride Parade.[2][3] In 2019, a viral hoax tweet jokingly announced the marriage of Chuu and Yves as "Lesbian Korean Billionaires," which became a popular meme in K-pop fandom:[4]

[BREAKING] Lesbian Korean Billionaires, Ha Soo Young and Kim Ji Woo, marry. With a combined net worth of $170 BILLION, this makes them the richest couple alive.
