Goostarion (also spelled Goosetarion) is an AU crack version of Astarion from Baldur's Gate 3, re-imagined as a chaos-causing, anthropomorphized goose. Invented by voice actor Neil Newbon as a joke, the character has inspired fanart, fancrafts, and fanvids.

Origin and spread

In a 2021 Twitch livestream, voice actor Neil Newbon was asked by a fan, "Out of all your characters, which character do you think would be a very chaotic goose?" Newbon responded with a short ad-libbed performance as "Goostarion":[1]

Can you imagine Goose Astarion? Goostarion? 'Oh, honk. Honk, my name's Goostarion. Honk. Is that your sandwich? Not anymore!'

The question was a reference to the indie video game Untitled Goose Game. Fanworks often depict Goostarion holding a knife in his bill, an homage to Astarion's introductory cutscene in BG3, as well as to an UGG meme from 2019 (a screencap of a knife-wielding goose with the caption "peace was never an option").[2]

Goostarion was quickly embraced by BG3 fans, inspiring fanart, fanvids, and other fanworks while the game was still in early access in 2021.[3][4] The character's popularity grew after the game's official release in September 2023.
