Astarion/The Dark Urge is the canonical pairing of Astarion and The Dark Urge in Baldur's Gate III fandom. The pairing can be canonical if the player starts their game as The Dark Urge but not as Astarion, as, canonically, The Urge Urge is always dead in those in-game Universes.

Fandom
While the Dark Urge is, technically, a customisable character, his background and his quest line, as well as place in the in-game universe is pre-established, as he can be found in-game during any other origin playthrough.
For these reasons, fandom tends to treat The Dark Urge as two distinct figures, one is the Canon form of the Dark Urge, a male, white and red Dragonborn sorcerer, and the other is akin to a Tav, who can be of any gender, race and class. Fans who focus on the canon form of this character tend to follow his quest line and canon archetype closer in derivative work, while the others are looser with their representation. Some fans call the latter “Turge” a portmanteau of “Tav” and “Durge”.
It’s very common for fans to not know that The Dark Urge is a pre-established canon character, and so many simply consider the character to be Tav. This created issues with tagging, as the fandom is cleaved almost cleanly in two parts, the fans who enjoy reading Original Characters and Reader/ stories and the fans who prefer to only read about canon characters. Durge fans find themselves in the situation of not having a clear tag for their fannish needs at the moment (13th November 2023). This is especially irksome in the occasion of shipping, as many do not wish to read stories with OCs, self-inserts or Y/N.
