George/Hermione is the het pairing of Hermione Granger and George Weasley in the Harry Potter fandom.

Canon

Hermione and the twins had a friendly platonic relationship in canon, despite the fact that Hermione didn't approve of some of the twins' antics. Even while she was a prefect, it didn't affect their relationship. Fred and George often tried to lighten Hermione up by joking around with her. Hermione admitted that she believed they could work "extraordinary magic" and were clever and creative with their spell work,[1] although she doesn't always agree with how they use it. The twins were also extra protective of her, having tried to physically attack Draco Malfoy after he called her a "Mudblood."[2] Hermione wasn't afraid to stand up to Fred or George, especially in defense of their testing on first-years with experimental sweets, yet they never held a grudge against her for it.

Fandom

Geormione is significantly less popular than Fred/Hermione. This may be because of the added angst of Fremione due to Fred's canonical death, but the Fred/Hermione ship and many Fred/Hermione fanfics predate Deathly Hallows, the book in which Fred perishes.

The reasons for fans shipping Fremione more than Geormione are not concrete. Fred is the slightly more outspoken twin and has slightly more direct interaction with Hermione, which is likely a contributing factor. Additionally, there was at one point a fan rumour circulating that J. K. Rowling had considered pairing the two (Fred and Hermione) together, but later settled on Ron/Hermione. Though untrue, this rumour also contributed to Fred/Hermione shipping over George/Hermione.

Common Tropes, Fanon, and Themes

  • Fanon often has Hermione able to tell the twins apart.
  • Threesomes are fairly common to find, especially with Fred, but sometimes includes other Weasley brothers such as Ron, Charlie, Bill, or Percy.
  • Emotional hurt/comfort where Hermione comforts a grieving George after Fred's death.
  • Not So Different: In many instances fanfiction will depict Hermione, after she’s finished being mad at a previous prank, realizing that George is not just a jokester, but a smart one. They connect over their intellectual abilities as Hermione realizes how beautiful and complicated his magic is.
  • Little Miss Snarker: Hermione often tattles on Fred and George for their pranks.
  • Not So Above It All: Some stories depict Hermione joining in with George’s pranks, though she is known to get annoyed or tattle (see: Little Miss Snarker).
  • Dude Magnet: Hermione attracting more than one Weasley brother or love interest, very often Fred and George or George and Ron.
  • Outlaw Couple: George and Hermione pulling pranks together and avoiding the consequences.
  • Die for Our Ship: Ron Character Bashing.
  • High School Sweethearts: George and Hermione dating while at Hogwarts.
  • Brilliant But Lazy: The twins are often portrayed in this manner, smart but prefer not to put that much effort into schooling. They'd rather put it into pranks.
  • Anti-Hero: Fred and George are good guys, but they're also tricksters and can be pragmatic.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Fred and George can play a lot of jokes, but it's all in good fun and they normally never try to actively hurt anyone.
  • The Prankster: This is normally the heart and soul of George’s character.
  • Trickster Archetype: George loves to play pranks on people, goes along with Prankster.
  • Trickster Twins: Fred and George’s joke shop is often a setting for fanfiction, and you’ll often see the twins pranking together.
  • Twin Banter: If a work of fanfiction includes Fred, you’ll most likely see this. They both can finish each other's sentences, which often includes sarcastic quips.
  • Hogwarts Era stories are very popular, often rewriting scenes or actual storylines where George and Hermione become friends and later in a relationship.
