Generation VIII Pokémon games include Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield and their downloadable content expansion packs Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, remakes of Generation IV (Pokémon) games, were also released. Although Pokémon Legends: Arceus, a prequel, debuted this generation, it has its own article.

The most popular ship this generation is Leon/Raihan (TrueRivalShipping). Other popular ships include Raihan/Piers (E-BoyShipping), Hop/Victor (TrainShipping) and Hop/Gloria (PostwickShipping).

Other popular pairings, as seen on Archive of Our Own, are Bede/Gloria (DressedInPinkShipping), Nessa/Sonia (AquaHeartShipping), Bede/Hop (CherryFairyShipping), and Leon/Piers (DarkRoyalShipping)[1]. Other characters of note include rival Marnie and Gym Leader Kabu. Leon is popular for self-shipping and Leon&Hop is popular, since the two are brothers.

Pokémon Sword and Shield were ranked 5th in Tumblr Fandometrics' Year in Review 2019 for most reblogged Video Game fandom that year. In 2020, it was ranked 3rd, and in 2021, it was ranked 50th.

Generation VIII Fandom

Generation VIII features the first clique of young adults in the series in Leon, Sonia, Raihan, Piers and Nessa. They are often paired with one another fluidly in fanworks and may be considered a part of a larger mutli/polyamorous relationship. If not each other, they are paired with Milo, another young adult who simply isn't a part of the circle, or Kabu. Kabu/Raihan (Kibkab) has a following, but even with a noticeable age gap, (Raihan is 18-25, Kabu has grey hair,) shippers of Kibkab are not often shamed for their ship, and wank for that is incredibly low, (though it does exist if you look hard enough.) Piers can also be considered a Tumblr Sexyman[2]. So can Ball Guy[3], an incredibly minor character.
