Fix Your Attitude is an explicit Kylo Ren x Reader fic written by kassanovella. This reader insert fic was reasonably well-known in the fandom, but received a resurgence in interest in early 2020, when fans on TikTok discovered it.
- You’re an engineer, stationed at Starkiller. You’re desperate for recognition in your career, but issues with your assignment (spoiler alert: it’s the Command Shuttle) end up making you the clean-up crew, instead. Your annoyance with Kylo Ren lands you into some hot water. How many messes is he going to make you responsible for?
Reactions and Reviews
By January 2018, two years after Kass begun her fic and over a year after it was finished, Fix Your Attitude had amassed over 3000 kudos on fanfic site Ao3.[1] By April 2020, the work had 6637 kudos, which implied a very impressive level of engagement with a fic that was completed three years previously.[2] This is because in early 2020, perhaps as a result of the recently released The Rise of Skywalker, new fans began to discover this fic. Tiktoks with reactions and cosplay, often referencing explicit scenes were very popular.
So…. I wasnt really a fan of starwars or anything…. but I decided to read the fic “Fix your Attitude” because it was all over my tiktok and why not right??? I am now obsessed and it’s all I can think about. Send help [3]
This fic continued to engage readers throughout 2020, possibly in part helped by the increased Ao3 traffic and interest in fic reading that accompanied Covid-19 lockdown measures. By June 2020, it had the third highest hit count of all fics in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy tag on Ao3. It was also the eighth most kudos'd work, with over 8700 kudos.[4] Ao3 stats also don't account for all engagement with this fic. The author had crossposted this work on Wattpad and the work also received renewed engagement on that platform throughout 2020.
There were comments on Ao3 which indicated that a number of readers were first-time users of the site, or first-time fanfic readers.[5] A number of these commenters were logged out/guest users, or users whose profiles were created early in 2020.[6]

As well as interest from new fans on TikTok, a lot of existing fans of Fix Your Attitude were encouraged to re-read this story as a result of the increased interest.
Hi, So I recently started using tik tok and saw people mentioning "fix your attitude," and I was like "are they talking about that kylo fic?" and turned out that yep they were. I remember when I first came across it in 2016 and I would read the chapters in class, and now seeing you get the recognition you deserve is amazing! I'm super happy for you![9]
Many fans praise the authors style of writing, finding it immersive and engaging. While some fans genuinely appreciated the fic, reactions were not universally positive. Some readers criticized the author for using phrases such as "dude" or "man" which they found OOC. Sometime in 2020, the author added the tag The My Immortal of Gen Z, in reference to a since deleted negative review, in the form of a TikTok, comparing her work to the infamous My Immortal.[10] Sometime between April and June 2020, the tag Toxic; Problematic; Still Not Cancelled was also added.
