Point of View videos or POVs are a genre of TikTok in which the viewer watches from the point of view of a character or object within the scenario of the TikTok. The genre began as a trend in late 2019.
As fanworks, POVs are a form of Reader–Insert, with the viewer positioned as though they are interacting — and often paired — with characters from a particular canon. Similar to imagines, the viewer is usually referred to in second person using you and your pronouns, or in third person as “Y/N”.
Often, POVs use video clips from the canon’s media, with text and/or audio overlaid to describe interactions the viewer is having with the other characters.
Over time, fandom-specific subgenres such as Gotham TikTok have emerged.
