I'm wondering if we should rename this or have separate a parent category called "Music Fandom" or "Musicians Fandom" or something similar. Currently almost all music fandoms are categorized as Music RPF, but one can be a Swiftie, or a fan of Katy Perry, etc, creating transformative works like fanart, vids, etc, and not necessarily participate in the RPF part of the fandom -- Kingstoken (talk) 19:19, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- At a certain level when you cross over from a casual fan to a superfan of someone, you have much more in common with someone who's writing RPF than someone who just happens to like a musician. Swifties, for example, tend to closely follow her relationships and tinhat with the best of us and even if they're not actively writing fanfic about her I would argue they're still participating in Real Person Fiction and so it doesn't really make sense to me to have two separate categories? I guess I just don't understand what sorts of things you would file under one and not the other. My other suggestion would be that, perhaps, it might be better served as Category:Musicians under Category:People? - flyingthesky (talk) 20:16, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- I recommend against it. All RPF fandom categories on Fanlore are understood to refer to the fanworks fandom generally, not specifically the act of writing fanfiction. This is also how the RPF fandom tags on AO3 operate--not just fic, but all fanworks.--aethel (talk) 03:17, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
Why the * sorting?
Some artists have a * before their category name. I can't figure out what makes that category have the * before or not; anyone else know? Distracteddaydreamer (talk) 17:37, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
