B.A. News is a Star Trek: TOS newsletter zine from the UK that had at least 73 issues of between 16 to 20 pages each. It was issued by Beyond Antares, a fan club.
This newsletter was preceded by Beyond Antares (1973-1981) and began after that club's two year hiatus.
"Beyond Antares/B.A. News" was the second Star Trek newsletter published in the UK. Star Trek Action Group was the first.

From the editorial:
Thanks to all of you who wrote about the change in newsletter length. Most people were in agreement about keeping the bi-monthly format, but a few were concerned that our coverage of Star Trek might suffer because of the drop in page count. We can assure you that it won't. If we have something really important, then space will be found one way or another. In fact, this edition is blessed with some additional pages because El Presidente (please please can I have some more pages) Sue wanted to get the Patrick Stewart talk from UFP completed. She says not to ask where the paper for these extra pages comes from...it's not a lie to keep the truth to one's self and she would only exaggerate anyway!
Thanks also for all the contributions. Letters of comment are coming in thick and fast, so much so that we've had to edit some and leave others out completely this time round. But don't despair, we will eventually use them and please don't let this stop you writing in, we love hearing from you.
One thing I must ask, however, is if you send an item in, please don't send it to other clubs. There have been some instances lately where the same book review or Next Generation comments have appeared in several different newsletters. This isn't because we want exclusive rights to material, but we feel it's unfair to members who belong to several clubs as they end up reading the same piece over and over again.
Also from the editor:
B/A has a policy of NOT printing K/S or sexually explicit stories and we are always on the lookout for new writers. So if you have an idea for a Star Trek story, why not get out the old pen and paper and try your hand at it.
From Patrick Stewart's talk:
If you had a choice on the question of uniforms, how do you feel about the captain popularising the mini-skirt? (laughter)
Look (clears throat) (laughter)_ You are talking to a man who has worn skirts before (laughter) You are talking to a man who for two years appeared with the Royal Shakespeare wearing nothing but a G-string (laughter). There is no costume, however bizarre, however apparently unsuitable, that I have not already worn.
However... (laughter) I think the chances of you seeing me in one of those skirts and some of those long boots is unlikely (laughter and noises of disappointment). However, you have seen us in our dress uniform, right. A skirt of a kind, more of a frock coat really. And I can tell you the boots come up to here (indicates thigh) (laughter).

Shirts ripped, being thrown from bulkhead to bulkhead (calm down, Sue!). Not lounging about sedately prodding buttons, indulging a sickening obnoxious adolescent American children, yuk. As intelligent sci-fi, I do enjoy TNG, but I do heartily wish they could have made just a few more episodes with the originals.") (23)

This issue has a long, long letter of comment by Fran Ball very critical of the fan multi-part article called "Generations Apart." Some of her complaints: it's not well-researched, it's point of view changes too often, and it is overly critical of ST:TNG.

A comment from the editor:
Also making a reappearance in the pages of the newsletter is another part of Vince Corani's "Generations Apart" article. Several issues ago we asked members whether they wanted to read more or not, as Vince did seem to have riled a lot of tans with his observations. Although several of you gave an outright thumbs down, the general consensus of opinion was that as Vince had spent time and effort in producing the article you felt he should at least have the opportunity of completing it. More than a few members also said they enjoyed the responses to "Generations Apart" rather than the actual articles themselves. Anyway, included in these pages is part 4 of the 7-part article. (I've already read part 5 on the music of Star Trek, and I think you'll find it interesting -but that's for next time).
Excerpt from a fan's letter of comment:
And now a grumble, aimed in the nicest, possible way at some of the fans in the magazines. I have noticed of late a certain lack of tolerance towards other members comments in the last several issues - people named and criticised for their opinions. I even had to suffer the same indignity, castegated lor loving ST:TNG and unable to relate to ST:DS9 as I had "become so used to the argumentative world of ST:TNG where Deanna Troi comes along and always sorts things out*. Well, what's wrong with that? One of the great joys of ST:TNG is that it is written and produced in such a mature style - I'm not sure I wish to see fisty-cuffs in my vision of the future. I'm quite happy that other people enjoy DS9 - that's fine. I just happen to dislike the series for the reasons I elaborated on two newsletter ago. The point is, that we are all entitled to our opinions and should not have to be publicly haranged for venturing them. So please, members, remember that you are not writing for the tabloid press, and try to show a little of the IDIC philosophy in your hearts.

From a fan's letter of comment:
I am not going to make any further comments on the Generations Apart' article beyond my dismay at nearing in newsletter 64 that the article is in 7 parts. Do you realise that you'll be running it for over a year! It really is not worth venting any more spleen over. Nevertheless I would like to say that I do not wish to read offensive comments such as those made in the same author's article about a London theme pub. (Motice that I have not used any names). Please do not allow the BA newsletter to lower its tone and join the 'yob culture.'

A comment from the editor:
Also we have the final part of Vince Corani's 'Generations Apart' article. Due to the time it has taken us to complete this, I must remind everyone of our new policy that any multi-part article should be no more than three parts maximum. I think after that it's time to move on to a different topic before it becomes blase.
