Takei has been a VERY FREQUENT guest of honor at possibly several hundred cons.
His appearances there were extremely popular. Many fans commented on his sincere enthusiasm, his kindness to others, his infectious laugh, his enthusiasm for running (often taking runs while at cons and inviting fans to join him), and his sense of fun.
George Takei. He spoke of his first convention in the early '70's: a few dozen people in a conference room. His second at the Commodore Hotel in NYC which he'd expected to be like the first. It wasn't. [1]
