About

In the first (and possibly the only) issue, the editor explained that it was first of a new publishing plan for the club:

This is our first JOURNAL in our new format. As we promised in our YEARBOOK, 1977 will be a year of change. So let me take this time to explain a little about the new features to be added to our old ones. We will have four JOURNALS a year, instead of three newsletters and a YEARBOOK. This we feel will keep postage at a minimum and allow dues

to remain at the present rates.

THE TREKKING GOURMET: Since George considers himself somewhat of a chef and with a healthy appetite, he really appreciates good food. He collects recipes and this new feature will extend his and your files with all sorts of good things to eat. Send in your favorite and if possible the ethnic background.

CONGRATULATIONS: Each publication will have a page of what's happening with our members. Birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, engagements, weddings, births or just any happy, event. Share your good news with us. Mail early for printing purposes.

PERPLEXING TRIVIALITIES; This will be devoted to contests, puzzles and trivia. Starting with this edition. CAPTION CONTEST. Prizes will be awarded. Look for details on that page.

PICTURE GEORGE AS; Have you ever wondered what George would look like as your favorite character? Send in your ideas and our resident artist Kathie Marcinanis will do her best to sketch it. One will be chosen for each JOURNAL.

WHOSE WHO?: And as introduced in our YEARBOOK, that mysterious British alien, DR. WHO, will be a regular feature.

Your articles,(how I met George, cons, impressions of his T.V. appearances, etc.) photos, sketches, questions, stories, artwork, is always welcome. We hope that we have found something for every body. Let's all pitch in and get that grey matter working and make 1977 our best year yet.

From "THE CONVENTION THAT NEVER WAS, A Modern Day Fairy Tale"

Once upon a time, there was a show called Star Trek, with bold brave heroes, and nasty strange looking villians [sic], which brought forth throughout the land a new nationality. They were known among their own as Trekkers, or to the outside world Trekkies, a name they despised.

First there were the Court officials who helped King Gene and his Royal Family spread the message of Star Trek, love and peace throughout humankind. They created occasions for all Trekkers to get together and exchange information and ideas, listen to members of the Royal Family, and wonder of wonders, to see an episode of Star Trek without commercials. For those who wished to add to their collections of Trekabilia, there was the kindly merchant who came to sell his wares.

Alas! over the years enter Sir Rip-off. The kindly merchant was pushed into the corner of the marketplace, by those who were out for their own selfish ends. Others of his ilk lured members of the Royal Family with promises of opportunities to spread the message. How saddening for them to travel so far to stand before an empty room or to be told their services were worth nothing.

If Sir Rip-off intended to destroy Star Trek, he failed. Because like all good fairy tales, this has a happy ending, Paramount has recently announced Star Trek will return. Even though battles have been won and lost, conventions have come and gone... still the message is...
