Along with Jaws two years earlier, it helped create and define the new genre of the Summer Blockbuster. It is one of the most popular and loved films of all time. Over the past 42 years, it has inspired tons of Fanfiction, Zines, Fan Art, Fan Clubs and more.
Pairings
The most popular Het pairing is Han/Leia, which became Canon in the sequels. The most well-known Slash pairing is Han/Luke. Luke/Leia was very popular too during the film's original airing, but was revealed as incestual in the movie's sequels. Other popular couples include Leia/Luke/Han and R2D2/C3PO.

FanFilms and Parodies
Like all successful work, it also spawned its fair share of Parodies, as well as Fanfilms.
- Hardware Wars[1], created by Ernie Fosselius, who later worked on some of the actual Star Wars' movies. It's often said that it is George Lucas' favorite Star Wars parody.
- Star Wars: SC 38 – Reimagined by FXitinPost, fan remake of the lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader.
- Show Me STAR WARS, without Showing Me STAR WARS, by Paulogia Live, which recreates A New Hope using only parodies of it from movies, series, etc.
