The one that started it all, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope launched what would become one of the most successful movie series and media franchises of all time. It tells the story of a ragtag group of Rebels fighting against the Galactic Empire. It introduced the characters Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Darth Vader, Leia Organa, Chewbacca, C-3PO, Obi-Wan Kenobi and R2-D2. The film spawned several sequels, prequels, animated TV series, toys, games and other media.

Canon

A farm boy joins with an old hermit, a smuggler, his Wookie co-pilot and two droids to rescue a captive princess and winds up a crucial part of the Rebellion against the Empire. He also learns of the Force, a mysterious power once wielded by the Jedi.

Characters

Fandom

Along with Jaws two years earlier, it helped create and define the new genre of the Summer Blockbuster. It is one of the most popular and loved films of all time. Over the past 42 years, it has inspired tons of Fanfiction, Zines, Fan Art, Fan Clubs and more.

Pairings

The most popular Het pairing is Han/Leia, which became Canon in the sequels. The most well-known Slash pairing is Han/Luke. Luke/Leia was very popular too during the film's original airing, but was revealed as incestual in the movie's sequels. Other popular couples include Leia/Luke/Han and R2D2/C3PO.
