Yoda was a Jedi character in the Star Wars universe.
Yoda's sayings (mainly to Luke Skywalker) have become common pop culture references and frequently show up in other canons as well as fanworks.
A Few Canon Facts About Yoda
He appeared in The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, the Prequel Trilogy, Star Wars: The Force Awakens (his voice) and Star Wars: The Last Jedi as well as on the animated series Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.[1] He lived the last of his 800 years in a hut on Dagobah, where he first trained Luke. How Yoda gained his powers, what species he was, and what happened to others of his species officially will never be explained.[2] However, Yoda's philosophy and approach to life is explored in detail in the Star Wars Legends tie-in novel Yoda: Dark Rendezvous by Sean Stewart.
The Fanon Yoda
There is an inside joke in the Star Wars fandom about Yoda being a war criminal. Whether or not this is canonically accurate is up for debate.
