Excerpts

XFFFA What was the first X-file Episode you watched?

TERMA99 Well, that would be Shapes--season one. And I don't think I've seen the episode since. I had tuned in because my art director insisted the X-Files was the best dang thing he'd ever seen on TV and our taste in entertainment was similar so I gave it a go. I was not impressed. One year later I tried again. I got Firewalker. Still not off to a great start, but the next week they aired "The Secrets of the X-Files" and I got to see clipsof Scully's abduction and Mulder angsting all over the hospital and I was floored. Addicted for life. I haven't missed an episode since. Just call me a mid-S2 convert.

XFFFA Which episode got you hooked on watching the show on a weekly basis?

TERMA99 Although "Secrets" was the hook, it was Anasazi that raised me to the level of "death will come to those who try to call me during X-Files." It is still one of my favorite episodes--right up there with Pusher, Paper Hearts, Bad Blood and Small Potatoes. Can you tell I worship St. Vince?

XFFFA When did you first get online to check out the X-files newsgroups or websites?

TERMA99 I'm almost ashamed to admit as a S2 convert that this took me years to discover...and I had a computer the whole time too! Although I'd been to the conventions, I didn't check out online XF entertainment until a few weeks after the movie came out. Can you imagine being a shipper from S2 all wound up finally finally waiting for the movie kiss and getting a DAMN BEE?!?!?! Let's just say that missed kiss was more than I could stand. I knew there were smutty tales out there, I just figured they wouldn't be any good, written by little kids, etc. Boy was I wrong! My loss really. I'm still trying to catch up.

XFFFA Did you have any special sites you visited often?

TERMA99 When I first started poking around online I started reading reviews and shipper sites. Anne Haynes site comes to mind, as does the Institution for Relationshippers, which is a hoot. I hung around those sites for about a month reading Anne's and Autumn's reviews reveling in the fact there were online shippers who were just every bit as obsessed as I was with every little look, touch and thought that sizzled between our beloved agents.

XFFFA How did you discover X-files fanfiction?

TERMA99 It took me almost two months online before I hunkered down and read my first fanfic. Like I said, I assumed they wouldn't be any good, and I was so protective and picky about these characters, I was certain I'd hate any other representation of them. But the first time I read about Mulder and Scully getting groovy was just about the strongest rush I think anyone could have hit me with. Instant, instant addiction. And that first fic (title will go unnamed) wasn't even all that great. It was just, yiiiiiieeeee! These two needed to mate in a BIG way! WOW! Gimme more!

XFFFA Did you read anyone else's fanfiction that inspired you yourself to write? If so, do you remember who it was or the title of it?

TERMA99 I remember this very clearly...Karen Rasch "No Greater Love." I read that and damn, I knew I HAD to write a casefile and started Aftershock about a week later. I had been reading smut up to that point (lots of Lydia Bower). But casefiles...really truly good casefiles with character examination and development are the *best*. I don't even care if they have sex or not, as long as they are true to the show and my understanding of Mulder and Scully--which Karen's wonderful work certainly was. Hard to find stories as good as that one.

XFFFA Do you still read fanfiction, or are you too busy writing?

TERMA99 I try to read as much as I can, because I LOVE it. But my time is often slim and I have to choose between writing and reading. Right now I'm in reading mode and I always give feedback on stories I like. I'm on XFF and XAPEN so most new tales do cross my screen. I'll peek at just about anything with a "NC-17" and "MSR" attached to it. I do refine my reading list to M/S stories,be they X-File-ish or romantic. I'm not big on Krycek or Skinner tales, sorry. Slash is fine if there's a strong MSR theme to it.

XFFFA How do you feel about season six so far? How would you like to see the show end?

TERMA99 Here's a loaded question. It's almost like asking a parent if they "like" their child. I loathe to make any complaints about any episode or season of the X-Files because, heck, it's the X-Files and they can do no wrong!!

However, I'd have to say for season six that I really am enjoying the newness of the show since its move to LA, and the heightened shippiness, but sometimes (Rain King) they make the "relationship" a bit too dorky. I'd like to blame Victoria Jackson, but I think it was the writing. Aside from a few tepid eps--I think S6 is one of their strongest yet and Drive, Dreamland, Triangle, SR-819, and Tithonus are all stellar X-Files. I'm very pleased--I needed a lighter side after S4 and 5.

How would I like to see the show end? You mean it's gonna END? Someday. Despite the fact I try really hard not to think about the show ending out of pure depression, I would like to see Mulder and Scully continue to evolve and draw closer physically finally culminating in some amazing romantic passionate oblivion on either the last episode, or the next movie. I'm hoping for the movie because, hey, you can "show" more on the big screen. Until then, I'm 100% happy with the recognition that us shippers are not delusional and indeed there is a very profound love and passion simmering just below the surface here.

As for the mythology... I'll trust it to CC's fine design...
